Basically, all this is, is sticking a ladder up on a ceiling, I would think that this would make crossing huge gaps a bit more interesting, and would allow for another way to cross any form of pit already with a ceiling without creating a land bridge.
because of how ladders are and how gravity works, might have to hold the shift key the whole way across, or else, hold the space bar and keep moving... probably not an issue for some, but for me, because of my keyboard, some of the keys stop working from time to time and have to unhook it and rehook it to the computer. Monsters probably won't be able to use it, due to how they move around and when they follow the player. I would think that at least the skeletons and zombies should at the least be capable of using it, though their AI might need adjusting so they'd be smart enough to know its there and use it. The spider and creeper shouldn't be able to, because no arms of course. wolves, and other animals also won't be able to use it.
All in all, this is mainly meant as a way for people who really don't want to use up their blocks on a bridge to reserve their non-renewable resources, or another way to have a sort of barricade against monsters getting past certain points. Other than that, it adds another surface for the ladder to be used on.
