I lots of people have suggested better tools but has this happened to lots of people. You have lots of iron but can't find any diamond. You may decide to get something in between like better iron tools! Here is how you would make them.
Step 1: Smelt LOTS of iron ingots. You would get an iron sheet.(like sheet metal)
Step 2: Get the iron sheets and put one one either side of a stick. You would get an iron coated stick.
Step 3: Use the iron ingots and put them one above the other. You would get a iron rod.
Step 4: Put the iron coated stick in the furnace. You would get iron coating.
Step 5: Put the iron coating above the iron rod. You would get a iron handle.
Step 6: Put iron in a 2 by 2 pattern. It would make compressed iron.
Step 7:Use the iron handles and the compressed iron as you would craft a normal tool.
The tools would be slightly slower that diamond tools but faster than iron ones. They also have much better durability than iron(think of the resources you used) The pick still can't dig out obsidian.
Constructive criticism accepted. I have no history in coding so if someone could volunteer to help that would be brilliant. Please comment. Would people PLEASE post instead of just looking.
I like it, but for all that trouble I would rather use plain iron tools. Perhaps if it could mine obsidian it would make more sense.
It is better if can't in my opinion. Diamond is supposed to be the only thing that can mine obsidian. I understand you though it would be a bit of trouble but it would be worth it. even if you did have diamond you could still use these.
Thanks for both of your support. :smile.gif: How are you at coding?
Coding for this game is a pain in the ass lol. How many ingots would this require exactly?

Well, however made, it needs to have more uses than however many iron picks could have been made for the same cost or it isn't worth it.

Complete overkill on new items.
a few simple recipes would work finely...
Could you tell me what the recipes would be. If not then to you.
Also I was thinking that you would get 2 iron rod, 2 compressed iron and 2 iron coating once you smelt the iron coated sticks. Is this an improvement. I still need a coder to volunteer. I might get a chance to make the models tonight.
I would only consider this if I had lots of iron. Which I think I do. I have more than 4 stacks and still much more to be mined. I rarely crafted/used iron tools because they are too expensive. I only used them for mining ore.
One question. How much iron will you use in the process?
20
I was also thinking that crafting iron rods would give you 2 iron rods not 1. Same thing for smelting iron coated stick and compressed iron. That would take... 12 instead of 20. Would people please respond if they think this is better. It is 3 times as expensive as a normal iron pick but much much better.
This is really complicated. I still like my idea of stone tools using 3 stacks of cobble that makes a stone pickaxe that lasts as long as a diamond tool.

So you say 1.4 is fail because you don't know how to update your server? WTF
Thats like saying all cars fail because you don't know how to put gas in them.

It is made for player who have got far and have lots of iron but no diamond. You're way wouldn't work because stacking thing in the crafting grid doesn't work. This is supposed to be as realistic as possible while still being minecraft.

Perhaps just:

Yields 6 sheet metal.

For a pick it would take 20 ingots. I didn't realize that.

Yes I am a ____________ Miner.
Yes I have no profile picture.
Yes that is a bad idea.
