Minecraft. Always summer. Until you find snow, which may be thirty blocks away. Very realistic.
My idea changes that. It makes minecraft more realistic, and maybe even more fun.
A minecraft year lasts exactly 100 days in minecraft. A season lasts 20 days. The extra five days in between will be transition.
SUMMER
Basically regular minecraft. Just as we all know it now.
TRANSITION- Trees slowly turn orange and red
AUTUMN
The trees are all red, orange, and yellow. Some of the animals go away.
TRANSITION-Leaves slowly decay until it's only a trunk.
WINTER
The animals are gone, but they can spawn indoors. The first snow comes, and it snows randomly but very frequently. Wolves will come see you during this season.
TRANSITION: The snow goes away, and many, many red and yellow flowers start to sprout
Spring- Many flowers are everywhere, the animals come out, and it the trees regain their leaves
We don't have seasons. We have the randomizer, thanks. It may be summer, but then you walk into a snowy biome - BAM! Snow! More realistic than you think.

So...you can still have summer in a snowy biome where the snow would begin to recede from the edges of the biome

Of course! Who hasn't been wandering through the desert, battling HIGH temperatures and LOW humidity and stumbled across a patch of grassy snow at the same height and light levels in real life? Happens to me all the time!
Oh wait... that logic is absolutely... nonexistant.

Instead of leaves falling and making the tree a vertical wood stack, the leaves should turn into branch blocks.
Or just the leaves closest to the top of the tree.
Breaking a branch block would drop a branch which can be crafted into a stick.
Or just drop a stick.

four seasons!!! d(OuO )
especially the idea of leaves changing by season
(others... i think it's too big change for the game - animals AI is still on progress i've heard)
how about like...
SPRING - Light green
(:RFlower: bloom)
SUMMER - green
(:YFlower: bloom)
FALL - red~orange
(:RFlower: in a bud)
WINTER - green (snows)
(:YFlower: in a bud)
I feel like this would make smp servers better as well, because then there would be a sense of time.
