You know, I'm sure that this thread has been suggested plenty of times, but I've never seen one (and this absolutely doesn't excuse me from not searching), but in any case: What would you guys think of torches being affected by redstone wires? Instead of a signal being sent like in the redstone torches, they could emit light like they do now, and just like redstone torches, they're always on. They could be turned off by having an on redstone signal affecting it from behind it while attached to a block (redstone users, you know what I'm talking about with torches + wires).
This could make for interesting new rooms, step on a pressure plate and every torch in the room suddenly turn off, leaving you shrouded in darkness, fearing what might now be able to come from the shadows. Another way to use this would be to use the new redstone delayers to slowly light and shroud torches across a long hallway. (Think of the point in alien swarm with the ship providing light while moving across the bridge).
I think if the lights turned on in a sequence, one after another, like in a hallway of some sort that would look amazing. And most horror/nightmarish servers could use it to their advantage, or maybe flickering lights?

Maybe like a glitched out glowstone of some sort.
Actually, that'd be a great idea! Lightstone might be useable with redstone too, though I'm not too sure if the players would take it THAT far in stretching the game's unnaturally magical world and physics. Sure you can carry roughly 60 tons+ of solid stone in your pockets, but I'm not so sure about having a light emitting rock from hell being turned on/off by a strange electric-like substance in the normal world. Magical as it may be, we can let notch decide how far he'll go with this.
Hmm, if torches and lightstone, why not pumpkins too? We'll see. :biggrin.gif:

The players call redstone magical, so why not make it work with Glowstone? Or maybe just have a different type of glowstone, one that just flickers? But that might get annoying to a point as well. I think your idea is fantastic. I'd definitely use it in my zelda theme server :biggrin.gif:
