Something I thought up, that would add something interesting. Normally, doors are crafted with the regular six wood planks: [] [] []
When crafting this door, steve even thinks to cut a hole in to the door. This gives players, what I think, an unfair advantage. Creepers don't blow up, mere inches from your face. Zombie's can't get you back, through 6 inch wide holes. The little bit it doesn't block is light. The door is a murder hole on steroids. I personally find this to be a bit cheap, for six wood. The window also leads to the misconception that the door has glass in it, with hundreds of texture packs including it.
My suggestion is to alter this system, with a recipe change, a model change, and an extra item.
The door:
Plain and simple, with the same recipe. [] [] []
The difference is, no window. You have a block that can change position with a click, for only six wood.
It blocks light, when closed, the lighting system treats it as glass, when open. Mobs can't see you, but you can't see them. It allows easy, instant access in and out of your shelter.
Window door:
Almost the same thing as the current door, with a recipe change: [] [] []
This door can be seen through, and allows light to pass through. Like with normal glass, mobs can't see you through here, still. You can't attack through it, though, so get to diggin' those murder holes.
Any comments?
Wouldn't be suprised if something like this has been suggested. If it is, let me know, let it die.
Actually came on here to post an identical suggestion, good thing I searched...
however I would like to clarify, It blocks light when closed, but not when it's open? That would be how I would have it.
in fact, that's the main reason I want them, I would like to be able to have a door between low and high light level areas without mucking up mob spawning, mushrooms, et cetera.
and one suggestion, so as not to bother people who like the way their doors are now, you could make the 6 plank door the "new" item, which would make already placed doors stay like the "window doors"... rereading your post that MAY have been what you intended, but if not, now it's been clearly suggested... I hope
much support
