Hello minecraft forums! As you can clearly see this is my first time ever posting. Not necessarily my first idea, but i was always kinda lazy, and eventually just talked myself out of ever posting earlier "creations". Until now! And hopefully I did my searching right, and no one has thought to post this idea before me.
Q?: Why is it that no animal fears us in minecraft? Now yes I understand that the game is not based on real life, but last I checked if I was to go out hunting, I would not be able to walk up to say, Mr. Piggy, pull out my ******* sword, saying, "Sorry Mr. Piggy, it is your time" And hu-cha! I now have bacon! Pretty sure the pig is going to put up somewhat of a fight. Or at least high tail it the heck outa there fore I get a free swing off.
Now Im not suggesting change the mobs in minecraft, the game is great and works fine as is. My thought is introduce a few "skiddish" if you will, mobs, or wildlife. Say, a deer for instance. You would not be able to calmly walk up to a deer, brandish your bacon-encrusted ol' reliable and harvest your venison. It could work off the same mechanic as creepers and other aggressive mobs have now with a 16 block detection radius, but simply in reverse, they would run the opposite way of you if you were detected. This would add to the thrill of the hunt, and I feel, make earning that bacon, if you will, a little more satisfying.
Not only that but perhaps a few new items to go with said new venison meat. A smoker, if you will (please pardon my lack of thought for this part, and also artistic abilities)
Works just the same as a furnace, except it produces "smoked pork chop" or "smoked venison" or what have you. Now smoked vs cooked gives no added benefit, but I feel that because you had to work harder to get the venison perhaps it could have a small bonus of an extra heart healed vs a pork chop. And since it is a smoker i feel perhaps you would have to use wood as a fuel solely cuz its a smoker, but now im just throwing ideas out there.

The spit. And maybe even a cool animation of the meat turning round as it cooks.
Hopefully tho with new options for cooking meat, perhaps the furnace could be changed slightly so it would no longer be the end all be all cooker, but stictly for the use of ores, as it should be, and therefore a player doesnt simply need a workbench and a furnace to have a home, you then need a few more commodities first.
Thats all I have for now. I may have easily forgotten something, Im almost positive. Please tell me what I have done horrible horrible wrong and how I could perhaps fix it. Or that yes indeed I have been beaten to the idea and need to go back to the drawing board. Thanks for your time.
I like your skittish mob idea. But mobs should also run away if you damage them (bow). Maybe this should only be for realism if it's too hard to kill stuff.
