So when I play on new servers sometimes, I reach the limit of the map. As I walk, I start generating new terrain. This has caused (multiple times) for the server to crash, or multiple players to drop out.
So, my suggestion is that in the options menu, the admins, or players (on SSP) will have a "force terrain generation" button. Then, they can choose the number of chunks to be generated.
Basically, this lets admins forget about the worries of having the server crash from new map area.
If you mean having an option finite worlds again, been suggested (trolololololololol).
A while back, Notch did consider this, to make things easy on laptop players.
This sort of thing is common in map generators people make, like bio-spheres, primordial desert, etc.

Nahh, not a finite worlds suggestion. This basically forces the map to act as though the player is standing at the dge of the current map, and thus generates more based on the seed.
I think this could be a very useful feature if an external program or the server application would do this. I'd like to have this for single player mode, too.
It would mean maps could be generated, and cities could be built in prime locations. In SSP, I suppose the same can be said. Glad you like :smile.gif:
Instead of "bumping", try to add some new content such as "the system would render new terrain based on the seed as if the player were standing at the edge of the map".
If you "bump" without doing so, it will be seen as spam and will annoy your viewers more than entice them. Just a word of advice.

Thanks.
There's not really much to add to it though. I just remembered it after some server issues and decided to bump it in the hopes of something happening about it.
I'd really like to see something like this as well. Right now the ore gen mod that I'm using only supports SSP, so when I start my new map on my SMP server for my friends, I have to first fly around a ton forcing the land to generate. This is slow and entirely irritating. Also as was mentioned above, being able to find a prime spot on a map renderer would be fantastic.
