These created zombie pigmen would be friendly. They'd act just like wolves in that they would follow you, defend you, and right clicking one would cause it to stand in place. However it would be a zombie pigmen, so it would deal more damage and be resistant to fire/lava. They would also be able to follow you to/from the nether as an interdimensional honor guard.
The cost of making them, 2 gold, is so high that I don't think people would want to risk them in combat much. Instead they would make nice decoration. What castle gateway wouldn't look better with a pair of sentries outside the gate? Or arrange many of them in formation for a massive "storm troopers greet Darth Vader" type reception each time you get home.
Recipie is too cheap. All you need to do is kill 2-3 pigs with flint and steel, kill 2-3 skeletons, and find some gold and craft it into a sword. Gold is not expensive if you know where to look. Too OP for minecraft, doesn't make any sense to 'craft' an undead minion, and we have enough tamable mobs.

It's not meant to be staggeringly expensive. Gold is just a pretty rare, late game substance to limit how quickly you can get zombie pigmen guards and make it a goal for more established players. If it was really easy to get it wouldn't be as rewarding to get them. If it was much more expensive, it would be too frustrating and not worth the hassle.
I don't think they're overpowered because you can easily tame infinity wolves for much less trouble, and those are only slightly weaker.
3 Cooked Pork Chop + 3 Bones + 1 Gold Sword = Friendly Zombie Pigman
