Hey! I just wanted to share an Idea my friends and I thought up together.
Pirates in minecraft. The Pirates will row on ships, and very rarely be found on Land. if you kill all the pirates on a ship, you could take the ship over.
here is another Idea that goes along with the pirate ships. if a Skeleton spawns in your ship, he works for you and builds cannons for combat. what do you think?
I was pondering the idea of pirates, too. I think they would be a fun and fear-inducing encounter in the game.
In the spirit that dangerous mobs encourage a certain behavior in a player, I suggest the following:
- Pirates sail up and down the coasts, looking for treasure
- They will attack you, and maybe chase you a little
- Pirates hate going underground
- Pirates like to use TNT to blow things up (like your walls)
- They like to take stuff from your storage containers (the shinier the better)
- They like to bury their treasure on nearby islands, and sometimes leave treasure maps behind showing the way (dropped by zombies)
So as a result, players will learn to hide their treasure more effectively, and finding a treasure map will encourage exploration.
Sure pirates, but why not Vikings? the behaviours you mentioned sound like Vikings to me
It's common knowledge the Vikings hated using TNT. C'mon.
The idea of humaniod npc's takes out that feeling of survival and seclusion. Maybe it would be a good idea as a mod.
Nah. No more so than any other mob. Pirates stay on the move. Vikings too, (Unless you're in Ireland).
VIKINGS:
- Vikings only come in the Spring
- Vikings love to burn down villages, if any are present
- Vikings love to steal food
- Vikings can be appeased by leaving food for them to find. They sometimes leave horned hats behind.
- They can be defeated by soldiers. Soldiers arrive when you use wool to build flags.
- Vikings hate flags.
- Viking villages exist in cold parts of the world, and can be burned down.

If NPC's are going to be added (which I'm not against) then their implementation gets complicated.
