We all know that people can use any wood, coal, lava, and charcoal to smelt items. Well wood is time consuming and some people don't like mining for coal. I was think we have cows, chickens, and pigs why not be like a lesser developed country and use waste from animals. You simply collect it from animals dry it out in the sun and bam! You have another way to heat up your furnace! There are tons of animals around and they are never ending and it isn't hard to find them. They practically find you and could provide an alternative source of heat.
While I will admitt that, in months, it's the first time I ever see this idea, and thus it deserves some praise, I have to say nay.
We already have plenty of fuel sources.
Granted, Lava is hard to find and use efficiently.
Granted, Coal is a pain to search for at first.
Granted, Wood is a poor source of fuel and lasts for only a very limited amount of time.
BUT!
Since 1.3, there has been a new addition; Charcoal.
Collect some wood, keep it in its raw form (logs) and cook those in the furnace. You can even cook the first few ones with wood too!
It would turn into charcoal, which has the same strengths and uses as basic coal, except that you have a limitless supply, as long as you replant your trees.
That's all the alternative we need, really.

Well get use to it.
Plus using dead animals? I think that's a beat mean, it's dieng and you just throw it in the flames to make iron.
