Hello fellow Minecrafters.
Im making this post because i saw many posts concerning this problem. Most of players are finding that mobs spawning decreased or they just stop spwaning. For what ive been reading it might be caused for many factors, such as mob plagues for example "slime plague" (in the case of hostile mobs) and squid plague (passive mobs), problems with the despawning zone or just the spawning/despawn algorithm.
About the despawning zone, is common knowledge that in certain radius from the player the mobs will despawn to allow other mobs spawning inside the spawning radius. If im not wrong i think this is a big issue because its a game problem not external that started on 1.3 - 1.4 update i think.
I had this problem at one of my worlds, where i had a 28x28 mob trap with a mobavator on it. Every day (minecraft days) i saw that the amount of mobs was decreasing until i hade only about 4 - 5 spawns if i was lucky. Dont get me wrong, im not complaining because of the mob trap, i felt like i was playing minecraft without mobs (no i wasnt playing in peacefull and passive mobs where hardly spawning too) is REALLY boring. I checked the trap 100 times and there was no light leak or canal problem, i didnt saw any squid or slime and im sure i checked every corner of the world.
After all the reading and what i experimented at my world i arrived to one conclussion: Mobs plague is an issue and its anoying but i dont think it should be fixed because i cant see nothing wrong about it. Despawning zone problem IS an issue and should be fixed because its suposed to be the zone away from the player where mobs despawn and they are not doing it.
I think thats it by now, i dont want to bore you with more yadda-yadda but i might update this thread as long as other players post. Consider this post as a nice way to ask MOJANG team to fix this issue Asap if its possible
Thanks for your attention.

@ Jebus :
More Mobs = More Lag?
Uh...I'm not the only one playing Minecraft on a sub-par computer, you have to think about other people's positions before you say stuff like that
+ I was playing on an SMP Server and Mob spawning got so bad and caused so much lag, that he had to temporarily dissable them
@ OP :
I know exactly how you feel (sorta) some days I have a whole bunch of mobs, the next, nothing, I don't find it boring, but I find it somewhat of a problem. And do you know the exact radius of the despawning zone? maybe it actually varies, or maybe it's just a bug in the whole spawning/despawning algorithm

These guys make awesome art for Mods (Items, New Blocks and Mobs)
I will be using them soon

The reason of not much mob spawning is simple - don't make a cave of 5x5x15 have 15 mobs in it. Your mob trap is probably with something wrong, because my 20x20 work perfectly.

I hadn't considered that. And my computer is basically the worst computing device that can actually be called a computer.
hmmmm im not asking for more mobs.... il asking to fix the way that mobs despawn keeping it like it used to be. Before 1.4 i think i never had problems with despawning...

BTW... yesterday or the day before i saw that the max of hostile mobs was decreased to 80.... i might add another poll about it.
