What an astonishingly stupid idea. Who the hell would build a boat out of bricks?
True, when you put this in water it sinks. Like a brick. But when you put it in LAVA - now that's another story!
So it's a lava boat? That's cool. Why bricks, though?
The question is - what else than bricks? Stone, cobblestone and obsidian are all made of cooled lava and would sink. Iron or other metals would burn your **** off. Everything else is either flammable, too expensive(diamond blocks) or too brittle.
Bricks, on the other hand, can withstand seriously high temperatures, have a lower density than lava so they float, and barely transmit heat. Bricks are perfect for a lava boat.
(I guess the boat could realistically be made with Obsidian too. But I'd rather it used Bricks since they have no use besides decoration, and Obsidian's already used for griefer-shelters and portals.)
But where will I use it?
Here!
And here!
And of course here!
You'll be the ferryman of Death with this thing. Look at all those peasants running along their bridges across the lake. Now look at you! You're on a boat! Yeah, you're on a BOAT! Take a good hard look at the §#¤%& BOAT!
Cool! Just like the boat will be, compared to the molten lava around it! More details?
The boat will look just like an ordinary boat, but with the brick texture. It also moves slower than the wooden boat, just a little bit faster than walking. It won't break when you crash it into stuff, as that would land you in the lava, which would be bad. Also, when you right click it while sitting in it, you are flung up and forward a couple of blocks so that you land on the shore and not in the lava - which would be bad. To retrieve the boat, you can chip at it with a pickaxe for a few seconds, which will drop 5 brick blocks. Some of them might land in the lava (which would be bad), but you should be able to get most of them back. Also, since the boat has more inertia it won't be as easy to lose it by pushing it offshore.
Not a bad idea!
The only problem I see it dismounting it.
With boats I always end up in the water when getting off, so there might be a problem there <_<
And because of how rare clay is, maybe we should be able to take back our brick boat, like the cart, instead of it breaking like the wood boat

If you are Amish and are 100% proud of it, put this in your signature.
MrNomNoms, bricks do float in stuff that's heavier than themselves, like lava! All items do. Take a solid block of lead, put it in a pool of mercury, and guess what? It floats!
Tobias, I thought of this myself. I wrote at the end of the first post that when you dismount it, you will be flung up and forwards a couple of blocks, so you land on the shore. Getting back the boat is probably a good idea too.
Wasmic: Ah, he did? Dang. That renders the whole thing moot I guess... though the iron would actually sink, and be heated to unbearable temperatures... Maybe I'll try reaching him on IRC.

Sound good?
I support Carrier Eagle
