im starting to get bored with minecrafts current biomes and maps, so i thought of some ideas.
rivers:these are 3 block deep moats filled with moving water. they should flow from lakes or oceans and will end at another lake or ocean and are rarely found underground. they are fairly common and can sometimes be seen flowing of a cliff.
lava rivers: the same as lava rivers exept less common. they are also in the nether.
evergreen forest: like the winter biome, without the snow and will be common like all other biomes
tar pits: rare. these are found in the desert biome. players and mobs can drown in it faster than the length it would take for you to drown in water. it will pull the player in, just like a downwards water flow. will be found underground
craters:i know that circular pits can sometimes be found on minecraft, but i want a HUGE crater(20-30 blocks deep) and are rare
volcanic biome: rare. are filled with large lava pits and deep holes filled with lava an also be found. smooth stone replaces dirt and the biome has lots of mountans.
bigger underground chambers: the current size of caves id small and cramped, it would be more interudting if giant underground chambers were present
random ore blocks: random ore blocks will be randomly placed underground and will be rare.
extremely tall trees: will be very rare. these mega trees will start from sea level and reach the very top of the map.
what do you think??

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
Well I don't think it is a wishlist as it is a suggestion to make biomes better, but these aren't very good suggestions. Rivers would be nice and most people I think agree that Notch should find a way to put them in the game. Lava rivers are kinda debatable I personally don't think they really have a purpose other than being annoying. you can just make evergreen forests and there are already forests in the games, so it doesn't really make maps that much more interesting. Tar pits in my honest opinion just don't sound like a good idea ether does craters. I think volcanoes should be added but don't really think they deserve their own biome. There already are some big underground chambers in cave systems they are just deep down. The rest just isn't very good.

what do you think??
First off, if you're getting bored, nobody forces you to keep playing minecraft. Go play something else for a while, and don't touch minecraft for a week. When you come back, if you really do like minecraft, then you'll enjoy being back to it. If you really don't like minecraft, in the end, then you'll find it just as boring, and quit within an hour of gameplay. This would be a revelation, and should tell you to go play something else instead.
Now, on to the suggestions.
Rivers. I'm not entirely sure how the maps are generated exactly. But is that doable? I've seen some things that looked like rivers, but didn't connect 2 bodies of water. By the way, do you know how rivers work? They transfer water from inland lakes, amongst other things, towards the ocean. But it wouldn't happen if it's at the same level as the ocean.
That means that there will be a need for several levels of bodies of water. There are some, yes. Sometimes, you can encounter these hidden pools of water that are found on the side of a mountain. From these, you COULD get rivers, if they're not entirely enclosed in said mountain. But yea, it's a rare occurrence as of now.
Hard to say if it is possible with the current way of generating maps.
Lava Rivers. They're... the same as Lava Rivers? Obviously you meant normal rivers there, I hope. These are extremely uncommon, not only in the game, but in real life too. Why? Because they require a volcano nearby, and a large enough gap in the side of the mountain, close enough to its base, for a fairly wide stream of magma to gush out of said volcano. Then, it has to have a magma chamber straight under the "lava river", otherwise, it'll quickly solidify due to the ambient cold air and ground, and won't stay as a lava, and thus, won't flow like a river.
Even if those requirements ARE in place, the top layer of the lava "river" tends to cool down and start "caking" and solidify. The rest of the lava river would keep flowing, with a few chunks here and there on top of it of hardenned lava. I have no idea how this would be represented in minecraft, but if you want it to be similar to real life "lava rivers", it's going to take a lot of work.
Evergreen Forest. Some of these so-called "winter" biomes are just grassland covered in snow, with nary a sight of a tree. This can hardly be called an evergreen forest now, can it? All there is a need to, is to increase the size of the forest biomes, but even then! Some of them, as they are, are pretty huge.
In a smp server I am an admin of, we were first trying to find an appropriate map. We stumbled upon such a massive forest biome, that even above the clouds, there was nothing in sight BUT trees/forest. That's (I'd say), at least 20 chunks by 20 chunks. Consider that a cunk is about 16 or 20 blocks wide (I forget), it's at the very least 320 blocks by 320 blocks. 400x400 if chunks are 20 blocks wide. And that, was not with a tree every 10 chunks. No sir. That was with a tree every 5 or less blocks, with a few clearings here and there. This is a massive forest biome. So, is your "evergreen forest" idea that necessary? I think not. You just need to be lucky and find the correct map. After all, this is all about random terrain generation. Do you feel lucky, punk?
Tar Pits. Major flaw here, you explained that it pulls the players in just as fast as a water block that flows downwards. This is fine, but, you didn't explain anything else about tar. It's a liquid, that's for sure, but, what can we do with it in minecraft? If it's just going to be deathtraps, then I don't think it's a good idea. There may be potential here, but you need to flesh out your idea.
Craters. I'm pretty sure this falls in the category of random terrain generation, yet again. There are some, I know, I've seen them. You just need to explore more than your original spawn if you want to find that kind of thing. Maybe not as deep as 20-30 blocks deep, but, what stops you from MAKING them? The game won't just give you an easy way down to diamond because you're too lazy to dig down to them...
Volcanic Biomes. Volcanoes would be an interesting idea. There are already some random lava pools coded in the random terrain generation. I've spotted several myself. You just need to, once again, explore to find those. But still, back to the volcanic biome. I say that the blocks in those would need to be only dirt and smoothstone. I say that there should also be a biome-specific weather pattern. Ashclouds. Just like snow (except that you can't gather ashballs with a shovel), Ash would fall from the sky, and cover the ground with a layer of dark, fluffy stuff. Ash. If any grass was on a block when a layer of ash deposit appeared, it is burnt right away (it just disappears, and turns back to normal dirt).
This is kind of hard, because a lot of things need to be coded for a volcanic biome. Earthquakes, Ash clouds, the volcanoes themselves, if they'll be able to spit out balls of magma, and how they'll travel in the air. Also, what will happen when it reaches the ground? How far from the volcano can it travel? It's obviously more than just a tiny ember.
bigger underground chambers. There are already some pretty large ones. Again, random terrain generation. EXPLORE. Don't expect everything handed to you on a silver platter. That is, unless you try the seed "404" without the quotes. Look for a beach of gravel, and dig down. Hold on tight if you do :wink.gif:
random ore blocks. Okay, what? Care to be at least a LITTLE more precise on what you mean by random ore? Is it coal, is it iron, is it gold, redstone, diamond, something else altogether? Whatever it is, there are already plenty of randomly placed ores. They're governed by the major rule of layers. Like, coal appears at any height, iron only appears at water level or lower, diamond only appears at 16 layers up from the lowest and below.
Current ores shouldn't appear outside of their pre-determined layer range. Someone could end up spawning right next to a block of diamond, and be extremely frustrated by not being able to mine it for a long while.
If you mean it should be new ores, then, by all means, explain what these ores would be, because I see no such details! FLESH IT OUT MAN!
extremely tall trees. Definetly not. I don't have any problem with having a few trees growing to twice, even three times the size of normal trees. But definetly not from water level to the top of the map. That's just insane. However, if you want such a huge tree, nothing stops you from decimating a forest and building the tree yourself.
Bottom line; These ideas either need to be more fleshed out, not added at all, or would take a lot of work from Notch to add. Try suggesting these to the modders. Maybe THEY can help :biggrin.gif:
