Many people want seasons for Minecraft, but it would probably be too complicated. I don't think it has to be too complex, each season could simply change three things: how often weather appears, what kind of weather appears most, and how long each day or night is.
Summer:
very long days, short nights
little rain, but nearly no snow.
(generally a good time for building)
Autumn:
slightly less chance of weather, but even mix between rain or snow
Slightly shorter days, longer nights
Winter:
all weather is more common, but most weather is snow (in winter it may rarely rain in deserts)
nights are very long, days are quite short
(if it weren't for beds this would be a dangerous time, to protect your buildings)
Spring:
Weather is normal but its almost all rain
Longer days, about the same as now
All biomes still have their say in what the weathers like, this only makes it more likely to have certain forms of weather.
I realize seasons have been suggested, Im renewing it in a hopefully simple form.

I think this is an interesting idea. A subtle way of increasing the immersion.
But...I see this making the "forest biome" and "winter biome" redundant to each other. Or would the "winter biome" just get summer-y snow?

[quote=LikeABoss]God damn, this is one of the best ideas i've seen, its probably been suggested 1,000 times but I don't care. This could be amazing. Here's everything:

Thanks for all the praise btw :biggrin.gif:
In response, biomes are the same as they are now in that it is more likey to, say snow in the winter biome at any time of the year, but in winter it could be snowing in the forest and the winter, while it summer it would never snow in the forest (or very very rarely).
So yeah in winter everything may seem generally the same if its snowing, but in winter it still snows less in the forest. Does that make sense?

I like it. How long would a season be? Are we going the 30 day Harvest Moon rule or something else?

Well 30 sounds like a lot, maybe 15? I'm thinking maybe every few times you play, but i'm not sure how many days people play minecraft at a time before they quit.

Yeah I was gonna say 10 or 15. I'd say I play about 40-50 days on SP per game before I get bored of where I am and do a new seed. on SMP it's different because it's so buggy that even if this was implemented no one would notice lol.

I think I got'cha. Seasons affect the odds of a given type of weather event occurring, and these odds are different for each biome.
I guess a better question would have been: Will seasons affect snow on the ground? If seasons did affect ground snow then the "winter biome" and "summer biome" would be largely the same (except for the chance of rain and snow).

k so 15 is pretty good, however I don't think it should be a set number either, seasons can come in too soon or too late in real life. Otherwise it would be like, "oh the sun is coming up so it should be winter in a few seconds."
