I took a trip with my family to an Ice cave in my local area, and i realized it would be a perfect addition to minecraft. Maybe even have icicles and frozen waterfalls/lakes.
They could spawn at random anywhere from 0 to about 35 (the same as gold level), maybe a little higher. Since normal caves always strike me as being hot, it would be nice to feel chilled while exploring a cave every once in a while.
Another idea is to integrate them with biomes. For example, if the chunk that the cave is generated in is a taiga or tundra, it will most likely be an ice cave, but if the cave is below a desert, there will be no ice. Although that may not be as realistic as the caves just always having ice (most caves in the world are freezing, due to lack of sunlight).
What do you think?
hahahaha yeah that is a good point. I guess the ice would have to be a coating on the stone just like snow. It would melt and only expose stone. The ice would have to coat walls and the ceiling too.

Maybe a special tone that has the functions of ice but doesn't melt? I really don't know if it should be able to mined but I could see a good a awesome cave.

Theres types of ice in real life that don't melt, so yeah it could work.

However, until biome size is increaed, this is not feasable.
lol, thats a good point.
