Today i was in my local downtown and i saw a skyscraper with the shiny one way glass and i thought that would be an amazing addition to minecraft. I tried writing a mod but couldnt get it right so i totally got rid of that, but i just though how cool it would be to have mirrors and one way glass or glass doors or other mirror and glass related items. I think it would help Minecraft ALOT! I am not sure if anyone has suggested this before but i just wanted it to get out there and for other people to share their opinions. PLEASE SHARE THEM. I will have some example screenshots soon but i don't have much time. So moderators if this isn't a legit post please close it or move. Also give me some time on the screenshots.
The Problems...
This suggestion could mess with the creativity of the game, making it easy to create elaborate skyscrapers. Also this might not be possible to edit with normal texture packs and would require some coding for texture pack artists. Which would make the job harder but there is nothing wrong with learning some programming
The Crafting...
This object wouldn't be hard to construct, maybe having some coal and glass combined or some kind of darker natural material. which this might add more items to the game but whats wrong with that? theres always room for more items...Mirrors (in real life) are basically made with aluminum and glass and aluminum could be a positive item to add to the game. It has many functions in Real life and could be used for several different situations.
Coding them nicely would be hell, playing with them possibly more so!
Ok firstly it would be extremely hard to code, the only thing I could even think of would be if it just became the color of the first block in its line of sight (this would be pretty epic for long range signalling...).
Ok lets just say you did code them nicely... Ever since BETA 1.5 placing a torch in a cave on SMP causes me to lag, every block I place in a place with no sunlight (even under a tree) make so much lag I normally end up placing 2.
Proper realistic images would take up almost as much processing power as the rest of the game.
Sure portal has portals that you can see through but its not rendering thousands of blocks is it?? (instead its rendering a nice pre made, mostly constant enviroment).
So really the question is:
Which will it use more of RAM or CPU?

I support, however! Mostly because I want to stare at my awesome skin.
