This is a re-post beacause i accidentaly put this in disscusion
Lets just make this clear, i dont want these things by 1.6 but mabye a couple of them by the 2.5 update.
#1 Layers
I got this from the game terraria. That 2D minecraft clone but iv got to say it has some good ideas such as layers when your digging underground. In terraria, there are several layers such as a rocky layer with more dungeons and caves and evan an underground jungle layer even! I just thought that, combined with the epic 3Dness of minecraft would just be really awsome.
#2 LanternsREAD THIS people are misundrstanding this one!
Im not saying this about the torches running out thing but mabye lanterns could still be lit up while your walking and would be fuled by coal so that there is a good use for those piles and piles of coal you find underground. I also thought that, rather then having clear light torches make, mabye there could be a more orangy light, so its more realistic.
#3 More items
Well anyway if you look at the items in minecraft, with iron you can make tools and armor with it and thats all, but I thought that there should be other items you can make with ore and stuff like grapling hooks and guns, well mabye not guns and grapling hooks, mabye something to make you jump higher and some really cool. Stuff rather then just armor and tools. Im not saying make some superpower jetboots and automatic-gunslasers and things just more items in general... ones that fit in with the atmosphere of minecraft. Also there could be hearts in dungeons with rare spawn rates that you can take that raises your max-life, makes dungeons worth finding later in the game when you have tons of iron.
#4 NPC's
NPC's that move into you house/town would be sooo cool. Not like random NPC's wandering around but just being in your town/house. some ideas for some types of NPCs that can move in is a merchant that you can buy items from (Arrows, wepons, torches ex.) wich you can attract to your town/house by having mabye 30 iron at one time or a nurse wich you can attract by having a certain max life (as said in #3) or having a certain amount of pork. Other ideas are a warrior, normal villagers you can talk to, and adventurers that give you quests wich you can attract in a certain way. And, if your getting annoyed by the NPC's, you can put up a certain sign on your house ([username]'s house) that makes the NPC living there move out and prevents other's from moving in.
#5 More harmful mobs
Im finding myself bored of the 3 (or 5 if you include mobs that only attack if provoced) harmful mobs in Minecraft. Mabye different mobs in different layers (as said in #2) and/or biomes
Well those are my ideas please dont have mental breakdowns in the replys about why thay all suck. I might come come up with some more in witch case il add them here.
something completly random, probobly consisting of the word epic at least one. Examples, "Epicness in a can" "Wall o' epic" "Epic episode III, the return of Epic" etc.
You're only permitted to have one suggestion per thread. Multiple suggestions will overwhelm the reader and make it hard to discuss and expand on ideas since there are so many suggestions open to debate.

Layers
I got this from the game terraria. That 2D minecraft clone but iv got to say it has some good ideas such as layers when your digging underground. In terraria, there are several layers such as a lava lake layer and an underground jungle layer even! I just thought that, combined with the epic 3Dness of minecraft would just be really awsome.
#2
Lanterns
Im not saying this about the torches running out thing but mabye lanterns could still be lit up while your walking and would be fuled by coal so that there is a good use for those piles and piles of coal you find underground. I also thought that, rather then having clear light torches make, mabye there could be a more orangy light, so its more realistic.
#3
More items
Just like #1, i got this one from terraria, wich has only 1 extreamaly retarded downfall, that its in 2D. Well anyway if you look at the items in minecraft, with iron you can make tools and armor with it and thats all, but in terraria, there are grapling hooks and guns and jetboots and some really cool stuff rather then just armor and tools. Im not saying make some superpower jetboots things just more items in general. Mabye just something that can make you jump higher. Also there could be hearts in dungeons with rare spawn rates that you can take that raises your max-life.
#4
NPC's
This is another one I got from terraria, NPC's that move into you house/town. Mabye a merchant that you can buy items from (Arrows, wepons, torches ex.) wich you can attract to your town/house by having mabye 30 iron at one time or a nurse wich you can attract by having a certain max life (as said in #3) or having a certain amount of pork.other ideas are a warrior, normal villagers you can talk to, and adventurers that give you quests wich you can attract in a certain way. And, if your getting annoyed by the NPC's, you can put up a certain sign on your house ([username]'s house) that makes the NPC living there move out and prevents other's from moving in.
#5
Different mobs
Im finding myself bored of the 3 (or 5 if you include mobs that only attack if provoced) bad mobs in Minecraft. Mabye different mobs in different layers (as said in #2) and/or biomes
Well those are my ideas please dont have mental breakdowns in the replys about why thay all suck. I might come come up with some more in witch case il add them here. Edit: And yes I know this belongs in the suggestion thread but i put it here by accident and i dont know how to move it. If anyone knows how can you tell me in the replys. I may just repost this in the suggestion thread
Right... First off, you should've removed that edit at the bottom before re-posting it here, really.
Next, we're technically supposed to have only one suggestion per thread.
Also, the title should be more precise. And I don't think that writing "Notch read this" will make him read them. In fact, it's sort of a signal for him to stay away, because they tend to be bad ideas.
Now, onto the suggestions themselves.
#1; We already have layers (of sorts).
Sky, Grass, (1 and above) water (0) Dirt, Stone, (-1 and below) Bedrock (-60 to -64).
These are the default visible layers. You can always count on them to be roughly where I've placed them. Changes in elevations can modify them somewhat. Like you could have a chasm or trench of dirt and grass that would end up with you having grass and dirt, as you start, at -20. It is possible. The random world generator does that. But generally speaking, they're where I've placed them.
Now, the minerals' layers.
Coal (everywhere)
Iron (0 and below)
Gold (-36 and below?) (unsure)
Redstone (-48 and below) (some may be a bit higher, again, unsure)
Diamond (-48 and below) (this one I'm sure)
So yes, while they're not quite AS defined as in Terrarria (mainly because Terrarria makes them more apparent due to the background, which is something only a 2D game can pull off), there ARE layers in Minecraft.
#2; Lanterns are already planned. It's hard to say exactly how they will work when added, but they ARE planned. Until they are released, there's no point discussing them further. Let the developers do their job, and be patient.
#3; While it is true that Terrarria has more items than Minecraft does, you have to realise a few things before asking for this.
First, it is much easier to design and implement 2D items than it is to do so with 3D items.
Second, Minecraft is still in beta, and, while Terrarria is still technically in Alpha, the devs (Blue and Red) have said themselves that they're pretty much ready for launch. They're just held back by the gears of the system, in the background, that requires them to go through a lengthy process before they can publish the game itself.
Third, Minecraft is NOT Terrarria in 3D, and Terrarria is NOT Minecraft in 2D. These, while similar in essence, are actually 2 different games of a new genre. The "Free Roaming" Genre, I'd say. There may be a better term, but it hasn't been made official yet what that genre is, because only a very few games are in that "genre" so far.
Hearts are a good idea. But guess what? There are mods out there for that. You can find hearts from dungeon chests. And apparently, there are some bosses mods that, if you combine the both of them (hearts and bosses), then the bosses will also drop heart pieces or containers, much like The Legend of Zelda. Go try them. They can be found in the Released Mods section of the Minecraft Forums.
#4; Again, I point you to the third thing about #3. But I'll develop a bit further. Generally speaking, the main idea is that you're the last survivor (in single player anyways). So it would not make sense to have NPCs pop out of nowhere. At least in minecraft. This is something that Terrarria does. More Power to them. Go play Terrarria when it is out. Minecraft is Minecraft is Minecraft is Minecraft. Plus, there are mods to do what you're thinking here. Why not try them? Try looking in the Released Mods Section for those.
#5; I'll have to, once again, point out that Minecraft is still in beta. There will most likely be more mobs by the time they release it (11/11/11). At least I hope. Either way, there are also mods for this. Try out Mo' Creatures, for one. But you don't have to stick to that single one. There are many mods that add differnet types of mobs. Some aggressive, some passive. Just check out the Released Mods section.
Tl;DR:
#1; We already have layers.
#2; Lanterns are already planned, be patient.
#3; Minecraft is not Terrarria. And Minecraft is in Beta still. Give it some time. Plus, there are mods to add other items to the game if you can't wait.
#4; We don't want NPCs in vanilla Minecraft, at least not yet. But there are some decent looking mods out there. Try them out if you would like to see some.
#5; refer to #3, but switch "items" for "mobs".
The lanterns are a good idea. But guns and grappling hooks in minecraft? Minecraft always seemed medival-like to me. Guns and grappling hooks just wouldn't seem like minecraft. If you want more harmful mobs then put the dificulty on hard or get a mod, because beginners most likely won't like the harmful mods.
Lets just make this clear, i dont want these things by 1.6 but mabye a couple of them by the 2.5 update.
