There are a few things I think need to be added to Minecraft, it seems like shortcomings to not have them already in the game.
1) There needs to be a flash/invincibility period for a second or two after taking damage. As soon as you take damage, you can take more. You can easily be overpowered by mobs or players rendering it almost impossible in some situations to survive the ordeal. Ever been trapped in a corner by two or more mobs? Tough, you're dead.
I play on the rawcritics survival server. We have pvp enabled and when I have to travel into a town for whatever reason, such as I'm buying goods off someone, I then get jumped walking out of the town trying to head back home and lose all my stuff. Not because I can't fight back but because they hit me twice with a diamond sword in less than a full second and I'm dead even though I'm wearing full iron armor, and they get all my stuff. It's extremely cheap getting ganked by a guy in full diamond armor with a diamond sword when all he has to do is hold the mouse down, there's no time lapse between taking damage and becoming vulnerable again, you just take damage with whatever hits you however many times it hits you. There needs to be a flash period after taking damage where I'd be able to defend myself rather than take a massive beatdown and not even have time to react. It kills the pvp aspect of this game. I'm sure those of you out there who enjoy sneaking up on people and killing them with no effort like this, but it needs to be changed. You know how in most sidescroller games when you take damage, your character flashes and for that .5 or 1 full second, he's invincible til the flash wears off and he can take damage again? That's what I mean. It doesn't have to make the minecraft character flash, it's just the way I worded it. It could be any graphic effect or no effect at all, there just needs to be an invulnerability lapse between hits.
Perhaps if not add a flash period, add a shield with a block key function or allow us to block with our swords.

2) Monsters spawning inside of peoples' houses and towns is kind of ridiculous. Even if there are torches everywhere, they still spawn. We can't have a safe haven if monsters can spawn anywhere except RIGHT ON TOP of torches. There needs to be a way to flag an area as a spawn-free zone.
-
3) Why would diamond tools expire as fast as they do? 10 minutes of straight mining can kill a diamond pick. This is kind of weird considering diamonds are the hardest known substance in the world. Bashing a pick with a head entirely made out of diamonds against soft rock wouldn't break it in such a short span of time. It should be extended a bit.
-
4) Mobs seem to move a little fast. It can be difficult to kill an archer skeleton when they're pelting you with arrows every 1 second. The spiders jump also needs to be made to happen half as often instead of whenever the spider gets close to you.
-
5) Day and night are too short. I can go out at sunrise, chop some trees down and gather some sand and by the time I turn around, it's sunset and I have to hightail it back to my house til the next morning or I get overwhelmed by mobs on crank and lose all my stuff.

I'm not trying to complain, I just think these things should be altered. I also am completely aware of how pedantic and hostile the community on this forum is so I'm well aware of the backlash this post will receive. I don't care to check this post after I hit 'Submit', I'm just hoping MAYBE, just MAYBE someone at Mojang sees this and realizes that maybe they ought to modify the five things I listed.
Even though diamond is a very hard material, hard != strong (!= is doesn't equals if you didn't know). If you made a pick out of pure diamond and used it on rock it would probably break after a few hits (if that). For the mobs spawning in your house... more torches, you can never have too few torches.
This game is already hella-easy for most players, even when you play on hard.
If you're dying too much, play on easy. If mobs are spawning in your house, you need more torches, as hostile mobs only spawn in light level 7 or less, so if there's a torch at least every 10 blocks or so you'll be fine.
Diamond breaks after over 1000 uses. That is perfectly fine. Just find more diamond.
You currently can outrun every single mob except for spiders (if they are leaping). If you are really having this problem, you should probably move back down to peaceful until you get a hang of making armor.
It literally takes about 1 minute to make a bed. Use this ability. Besides, you have 13 minutes (I think) without mob spawn, and only 7 minutes with it. Again, if you can't handle the mobs that spawn at night, you should really play on peaceful.
I have no problems with monsters spawning in my house, sounds like your servers shortcoming. I do agree there needs to be a little leeway after taking damage though...
so you go on a pvp server and dont like dieing you have to understand if you die in pvp and you dont like it go off of pvp easy
he is saying that there shuld be atleast a bit of time for him to defend himself insted of *click**click* dead in 1 second (shorter depending on speed that you can click youre mouse)

1) There is. Have you ever spammed arrows at mobs? Some arrows will bounce off. This works for players as well. It's a short burst of invulnerability, but its there.
2) Monsters spawn at a light level of 7 or lower. Just place more torches and move you bed away from the walls.
3) The durability is fine. Real diamond tools wouldn't last very long.
4) Mobs are hard to kill when your new to minecraft, easy to kill when you've played minecraft for a while. Some people want them to be harder to kill, some want them to be easier to kill. Keeping them the way they are is a good compromise.
5) Manage your time better. Or use a bed to skip the night.
1. If you get ganked on your pvp server, change it. I have been surrounded by zombies, skeletons, and creepers on many occasions and I always come out on top.
2. Place more torches. They only spawn in light level 7 or less. Make sure you illuminate nooks and crannies, as well as rooftops.
3. If you are wasting your diamond pick on cobblestone then that makes sense. Bring sticks and a stone pick for any stone or iron. You can build a dozen stone picks with the cobblestone you get from using a stone pick til it breaks. Don't use the best pick in the game on what is essentially trash rock.
4. Back up, strafe, and time your attacks. This isn't chess, this takes no strategy or skill to do.
5. I support a longer day cycle, but so I can fight night mobs longer. If you can't take the heat, play on peaceful.
