There has been discussion about backpacks, limits of existing inventory, and all that. I'm not having any luck finding a search, so here goes.
There are SO many different kinds of items, it's becoming difficult to play as a gathering explorer. A bit problem is things that don't stack, particularly food. With maps on the horizon, I thought of a scroll case so you can "stack" 4 maps in it by having a one-slot item able to hold 4 of the same, typically non-stackable single items.
It could work for bowls of stew, grilled pork, records, obviously MAPS, etc...
To simplify implementation, perhaps there is a seperate 4 slots in the normal inventory screen for everyone. To get fancy, perhaps you can cary pouches as a single item in any slot so clicking will pull up an additional 4 slot mini inventory.
I specified non-stackable SINGLE items, so you can't just stuff 4 stacks of cobble in there. It's more for those items you always want on your person, but can't stack.
Thoughts?

Upper right hand corner. If it says "search is disabled" and gives a link to google search, click it. The google search will provide parameters which will allow you to do a specific search of the site. You should also apply to the searcher usergroup (in the usergroup tab of your user control panel) at which point you will have access to the full search UI.

Would one carry this? Does it equip in a new slot? Do you just hover your mouse over it? Does possessing it mean that the slots are simply visible at all times on the side of the screen or perhaps in your inventory screen?
Really flesh this out, try and consider all facets of this, what the potential downsides and abuses of it could be, what area of gameplay it fills a need for (and does this need even exist. For instance, are maps really multiple, unstackable items rather than a constant feature? If maps are unique, how would they be stackable in the first place?)
Thanks for the thoughtuf reply first of all. Second of all, I knew there was a search, but I don't post much anymore and for the life of me couldn't find the darn thing. Most of my attention is on work at the moment... Anyways, here goes!
Ok, so basically I don't approach suggestions in the same fashion, since I'm pitching an idea and not a thing. People could discuss their ideas and wittle it down to what makes the most sense to the most people, or even go the other way and have it tossed out. BUT, since you asked...
If I had to just pump out the idea (not saying I have to, but it's not really worth all that effort):
(man, I'm still ticked I lost this post)

An additional slot is added beneath the four armor slots, and only one belt pouch may be placed there.
Four additional spots are added in the inventory screen, but offset and inactive unless a belt pouch is equiped.
The Belt Pouch is a craftable item with the following recipe:
[] [] []
*Yellow is string, Orange is cow hide.
As it is worn similar to armor, it takes damage as armor does. For starters, it will be as durable as a leather hat. Once it runs out of "health", the pouch is destoryed and either of the following methods could work for the stored goods.
A.) A destroyed pouch dumps its contents onto the ground just as a chest that is "destoryed".
B.) Destorying the pouch destroys the goods, as it won't be carying durable goods and will also more closely maintain the current balance.
The "pouch" spots hold only certain non-stackable items, and only a single item type may be held at any given time. Any allowed item placed in the "first" position sets the requirements for the other three positions. This allows carrying extra items as if they were stacked without actually stacking them.
Allowed: Stew, pork\fish (cooked or uncooked), maps*, books*, bread, etc...
Disallowed: Stackable items, boats, buckets, signs, art, tools, or anything else not really "small".
*I will assume maps and books won't be stackable, as they will be unique. You're not going to have 64 different maps in one stack. Even when cloned, it wouldn't really make sense to make them stackable. I make the same assumptions for unique books.
I don't remember the entire list but you get my drift. The exact specifics aren't important, since they're subject to debate by the people who remember them all in the first place.

That's it for now, since the first one was twice as long with extra thoughts and notes.
