Now this could be the dumbest topic ever but I'm willing to risk it.
This game is way too hard on our CPU's and it has ridiculously high system requirements when used with hd texture packs. If my computer can run Crysis with full detail, then a game consisting of blocks with pixelised graphics shouldn't need a system higher than Crysis standards etc.
I'm guessing this is caused by java. Now this is where it might get stupid, I might be completely wrong but if it really is caused by java, than it would be really cool if someday, perhaps a year later, since the coding would be tough, we could see a standalone minecraft game which works on it's own engine rather than java, with more modest system requirements.
Sorry if this was suggested, but I checked the topic. And I'm terribly sorry if this was a dumb idea :smile.gif:
This is not a dumb idea, but there IS a problem. What is it? It is that Notch only knows Java, and that is why he's coded it like so. Now, if we could find someone to willingly "translate" everything from Java to another language, that might help a lot already, without requiring its own engine. Would you be willing to do so? If not, would you be willing to find someone who would do that? If not, gtfo.
But still, the idea is genuinely good, so don't feel bad about it.
I think with so many subscribers, Notch must have a great amount of money. I don't know this business but would it cost too much to pay someone to do it? Just asking, no offense anyone. I respect Notch of course since this is probably the best game I've ever played :smile.gif:
And yes, it would cost a lot to get someone dedicated to translating things into another code, and would take a long time. Plus, they would need to KEEP him hired, as Notch still won't know how to code in whatever other language that would be.
This is like the whole story about the man and the fish.
"Give a man a fish, and he'll have enough to eat for a day."
"Give a man a fishing rod, and he'll have enough to eat for a lifetime."
So basically, instead of getting someone to translate stuff for him, the best choice would be to get someone to teach him a better code than Java. Or even better, for him to learn on his own, as that would save money. But that would also take a long time.
Bottom line; it's all up to Notch if he wants to keep coding it in Java or wants to transfer to another code eventually. Time will tell. In the meantime, don't explore too much, because the bigger your world, the more lag it'll create because it'll require more processing power than you may have at some point.
Good idea but indie developers have one big flaw, the fact that it's only themselves (perhaps a couple of people) so if they're missing something they mostly go without it. UNTIL minecraft rapes the world and then mojang plans for world dominance, THEN notch can get an army to code for him. So maybe in the future if all goes well.
