Ok, first of all, this has probably already been talked about, but since I don't know if it already has or not, please excuse me if this has already been mentioned.
People tend to build big buildings, but there's nothing to really put in the rooms for decorations. I don't know what ideas have already been mentioned, so please feel free to give your own. Here's what I've come up with:
First of all, there should be different looks for the same item. For instance, let's say you're building a kitchen. You want something to store the food, but a chest, although nice, doesn't really suit the place. So, maybe there could be a little change in the recipe to make a chest to make something else like a cupboard. It would have the same function, but it would look different. I know what you're thinking, "But, it's not necessary; there would be no point to having it." However, there is a point. It would get players to really add more style to their house, and have something to really be proud about.
There could also be ways to construct things by combining items without the use of a workbench similar to how placing 14 obsidian bricks in a certain way and lighting it on fire creates a portal to the nether. If we placed blocks in a certain way, it should give us the option of creating something new, or leave it how it was for the people who don't care for this. Here are some ideas:
A large plant that can be made by placing dirt, seeds, saplings, or whatever in a certain way and watering it. The plant doesn't grow or whither; it's just for decoration. A suit of armor could be made with this recipe: Place a pumpkin on a wooden plank, and when you're holding armor, right click to place it on the pumpkin/wooden block combo to make it look like it's wearing it. The armor could be re-obtained by right clicking the statue. An iron lamppost could be made by stacking two fences, placing a block of iron on top, and placing torches on each side of the block. It functions as a torch that gives off more light, and it would have an old-fashioned look to it.
These are my ideas. Please post your own! :smile.gif:

Darn, I thought they were original... Oh well..... But, is this a good idea? That's what I want to know. Heck, if people really like it, Notch could put it in the game. Even if my post isn't original, it's nice to know what people want.
