I've searched the threads where they file all other suggestions and didn't really find this so here we go.
In the light of the fact that slaves are out of the question, it leaves us with the freak borring task of digging and minning for HOURS. I don't mind doig it, I mind that it takes sooooooooooooooooooooooo long!
With the addition of some way to speed everything up, it would (in my mind) make the game more enjoyable and maybe people will stop cheezing (that's theyre businees anyway).
SUGGESTION:
After a few (ammount to be determined, could be 10-15-20) blocks of digging, you could get some speed factors that kicks in. In real life, when you do a task 8-9h a day you gain efficiency. I don't see this in MC.
These boost would affect speed but also tool wear (or not, but i'd prefer that it did). This way it doesn't affect the dynamics of the game too much (you go trough 1 axe for every X amount of wood chopped, you just get it done faster.
SUGGESTION (with a EXP system... keep reading.. :wink.gif: )
At fisrt i thought about some EXP system where the more you mine X sort of block, the faster you get in that particular terrain but I can see (from my reading) that EXP isn't a well received idea around here! It could work well if EXP only helps you get more efficient at borring tasks or yields more materials. I.E.: after minning away 10000 stone blocks, you are now 1.5 times faster with same amount of wear on tools. Or you get more chances of 3 wool blocks from sheep, or more chances of 3-4 leather from cows, etc etc...
I think this would take out some of the "tediousness" of some aspect of MC.
Discuss!
P.S.: New player, and english is NOT my mother language so go easy on me (spelling and grammar wise...! )
In before the inevitable chorus of "OMG! Stop being lazy, noob!". People on this forum tend to hate any "labor saving" idea with the fury of 1,000 suns.
Personally - I'm not sure. Yeah, branch mining gets old after a while, and so does flattening large areas for structures. On the other hand, taking speed to the logical extreme would be creative mode - and that's just not as satisfying.
What I'd really rather see is:
A) Constructed automation, ala cactus farms. Tree harvesting mechanisms, tunnel-boring machines, auto-storing chests and carts, that kind of thing.
:cool.gif: Make mining more interesting. The "large veins" idea would help with that, adding more prospecting and less blind digging. Also, making spelunking more practical for diamonds would be nice - it's definitely the most exciting form of mining, but currently not much use for the deep resources.
Logical and extreme in the same sentence, for me, doesn't work. :wink.gif:
I'm not talking speeding everything up in a lazy way. Just rewarding the effort with a small boost that stops when you change tools/block type etc...
Creative mode is borring I agree, but then again blind digging also. Efficiency boost would help make it more realistic as everyone gets faster at they're job the longer they do it. :wink.gif:
sounds cool (lazy TROLOLOLOLOL) but there are topics like this. also, i really dont think that this would be really that great. 10,000 log for 1.5 speed? sure its balanced, but not really helpful. thanks for taking your time to think out your suggestion instead of doing one of those 1 word answers.

In real life it takes longer than one second to hack your way through a cubic meter of solid rock
In real life you can't even carry a cubic meter of solid rock, let alone several hundred tons of it with no burden or decrease in speed or efficiency
In real life muscle fatigue would make it impossible to hack at rock for nine straight hours
In real life if you play minecraft for nine hours a day perhaps you should get tired of it.
In real life, there are no creepers. Sometimes real life is better.
