So, the other day I was playing Hinterland and I had an idea come to me when the king sent me a request. I searched to see if someone had already suggested this idea, but I couldn't find anything, but if I am re-posting old ideas, please forgive me. The premise of the mode would be fairly simple. There is a pre-generated city in a randomly generated landscape. As the game progresses, options branch out and it quickly becomes more complicated and involved.
The city is where everyone starts (this would be best in multi-player, in my opinion, but something like the MineColony mod could be used for single player). The player starts off needing a place to sleep, food to eat, and a job to pay for all of this. You have different options for this; I haven't really sat down and thought about lots of different types, but I was thinking something along the lines of a miner, a farm-hand, a guardsman, a rogue (who steals things from merchants or outside villages and sells the stolen goods to a fence), and maybe some others if I or someone else think of some good ideas.
Basically, you earn a living, and once you have collected a hefty sum of money (gold coins?) from working your job, you can then go to the king and buy a deed for land. Then, the deed acts as a terrain selector. Holding the deed in your hand creates a 50x50 square around you (or however big... maybe you can buy different size deeds) and then right clicking saves the current landscape surrounding you. Taking this back to the king finalizes it, and he gives you a deed which grants you, alone, the right to build on, and into the land. Now, the real Minecrafting begins.
Do you decide to make a city of your own, and enclose yourself from the rest of the world with looming walls of stone, digging into the earth for riches? Or, do you build a humble, welcoming village which provides for itself off of simple farming endeavors? Or, do you go somewhere in between? If you don't want to build a city, necessarily, feel free to leave the city any time and become a nomad. If you decide on this path, don't expect much help from the city folks. However, if there is already a village established, I'm sure they wouldn't mind some helping hands. Or, if you'd like, stay in the city and master your profession. Riches could come from city life just the same.
From humble beginnings as a peasant in the city, to a frontiersman, establishing civilization in untamed wilderness. How you progress is really up to you. In a multi-player setting, this leaves a lot of room for player hierarchies. If someone decides to stay in the city, and master their profession, they could end up being the overseer/coordinator for activities undergone by newcomers to the server. Otherwise, an NPC will divvy out jobs and money. If someone decides to create a village of their own, and they obtain many followers, they could become a very powerful individual, and may be able to negotiate terms of trade or protection with the king. Or, if a player is really power hungry, they could wrest control of the throne from the king through brute force. Taking their followers into battle with equipment forged in their own city, the player who started as a humble miner for a city man can become a king, and rule the pre-generated city. Those who helped in their rise to power can take positions of power close to the king, or take the positions of the mining overseers, plantation owners, or guard captains.
This is everything I could ever ask for in an RPG experience and more. Now, this idea would obviously require massive amounts of coding, but it wouldn't take over Minecraft. It would simply be a game mode. The game play would be very dense, and very player-based. If this were played in single player mode, something similar to MineColony would be experienced once you leave the city. You have followers, and the followers can perform different jobs, and be very helpful to you. In multi-player, you will most likely have to set out by yourself at first, but as your construction moves along, you might find that people are willing to leave their city laboring ways behind and come to the Frontier. In FrontierCraft, a lot could happen. It's all up to the player to decide where their story takes them. Will they be a king? Will they be the mayor of a city loyal to the king? Or will they lead simple lives, and mine or farm or fish or what have you?
TL;DR version: Sims + Civilization/Total War + Minecraft. (Thanks, Pyro)

That's a good TL;DR. Thank you, Pyro. :tongue.gif: I'll edit that in now.
But anyways, I realize that this would take a lot of work. lol. I'm not really expecting anyone to just pick this up and start making it, but it's a suggestion that maybe will read (oh, wishful thinking) and maybe he'll do something like it in the future. The far, far future. The future where all non-Minecrafters have been wiped from the face of the Earth.
Just kidding. But seriously, I've been wanting to get this idea out for such a long time, I figured now was a better time than never. :biggrin.gif:

Sounds like it'd be fun. But a looooot of work. Good luck finding a modder with enough time.
