I was bored in class today and thought about a new way to detonate TNT. My idea is that you can only detonate TNT with gunpowder, using it as a fuse. Gunpowder would be a placeable block, just like redstone. You could still use redstone, but you would use it to activate flint and steel (which can be placed on non-flammable blocks) to light the fuse.
Normal TNT could be crafted by putting 1 TNT and 1 redstone together in crafting table. Or, instead, put redstone in the middle of the crafting table when crafting TNT.
Constructive criticism is welcome, feel free to point out any flaws in my concept.
So instead of using an easy to get, common material at low mining levels (Redstone), we can use a fairly hard to get material that would be better used for more dynamite?
Why?

Gunpowder is easy to get.
If there's a gunpowder "fuse", it ought to disappear as it burns. And TNT should only be activated by flint-and-steel regardless.

What if you want to make a crater to get to that redstone because you just started a new world? You have to think outside the box...
TNT should be armed with a right-click and diffused by punching it (like how you can punch fire to put it out.)
You can light torches and furnaces without flint and steel so the player obviously has some way of making small fires easily.
Gunpowder or string as extended one-shot fuses should be possible in addition to the redstone ones. A gunpowder trail would burn more quickly than string. Redstone would be the more expensive, instant, semi-reuseable fuse.
Gunpowder should have a durability when placing it (multiple uses) so that gunpowder fuses would remain cheaper than the TNT itself.
Edit:
You should be able to light the fuses themselves with a right-click.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
Maybe if you wanted a normal TNT block (explode by redstone) you could craft TNT and redstone together. Or, instead, put redstone in the middle of the crafting table when crafting TNT. I think that would be fair, because if you make a redstone fuse, you probably have at least 1 block of redstone dust left.

What is the point of separating the functions into two separate blocks?

gunpowder that can be placed like redstone and burn? Sure. I can see that being used not only for ignitghting TNT, but for some cool effects on adventure maps.
However, it shouldn't be the only way to ignite TNT. As pyro said, flint and steel should ignite TNT, so you can beat it down with your fists if you accidently miss-place a block of TNT.
electrical sparks have a tendency too make things explode like propane multiple explosions happened because sparks hit something i work with fireworks all the time and i exposed gunpowder to electricity and it lit

I've underlined what I hate about this idea. I have a lot more redstone then I do gunpowder.
TNT should detonate when struck by flint-and-steel (to avoid accidental detonation) or as an option, be activated via gunpowder fuse.
