I don't know many of my friends who still play creative, but I had a blast of it in the past.
Although I believe that creative should have as much potential as survival, I have an idea.
You see, Adventure (as stated in the minecraft wiki) is supposedly a mode in which no block can be placed or destroyed. Creative is all about the creation and destruction going on. So, considering that, they should go hand and hand. Creative could make real and complex labyrinths, dungeons, worlds, and so on.
I am anticipating that some day Notch will actually add humans and such into the game as NPCs for Adventure (if you ever seen Dwarf Fortress, I would think it would be similar to how randomized that is). Someone who has an idea could make up their own storyline, their own adventure, or their own world if they wanted to. This adds a whole new aspect on what to do, and hours and hours of fun. Servers could be based entirely on the flexibility of 'quests' and objectives that someone thought of in creative, along with awards and so on.
Although the idea might be complex to implement, it would probably end up being the ultimate purpose for Creative, and give more purpose to playing Adventure.

Creative (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Creative), after getting the modern changes that survival has been given, should be a map maker for adventure mode (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Adventure).

Long story short... DO IT
Yes. I believe Notch confirmed that maps from other worlds could be used for adventure.
