So here's a thought. I was uploading a new skin to minecraft.net, and I got to thinking. New content and bug fixes are great. But something I'd really like to see would be updates to minecraft.net profiles and the minecraft.exe GUI. Putting a few of my thoughts down, it looks something like this.
[Update] So I found this thread, I like where Trienco is going this his thoughts. [Update]
Minecraft.net Update: Give the website a real layout.
Right now minecraft.net is just a collection of links and a video. Look at other game websites, (I'll use kiddy-friendly Runescape here) they have a layout spreading everything out. The website needs more in-game pictures and Icons to make it more appealing visually. Notch wants Minecraft to develop it's own Mythos, what better place to start than Minecraft.net?
Flesh out Player Profiles
Looking at my profile I only see a handful of things. Player Name, E-mail, Change your skin and Gift Codes. I feel that Mojang should give players a little more customzation in their profiles. Player pictures, account sigintures, the skin previewer where ever it ran of to.
Update and Patch Notes
A full change log of the history of Minecraft as a Game. This is a prime chance for Notch to showcase Mojang's talent coding Minecraft.
A More Comprehensive First Days Guide
Allowing prospective buyers to get a general feel for the game and how it's played show more effort on the Devoloper's side. It adds a well rounded feel to the sales pitch. On the same hand, a guide would allow new players a chance to become familar with the game just after they bought it.
Minecraft.exe Update:
Update the GUI to match the new logo.
Mojang busted out this cool new logo, but nothing to go with it. It feels incomplete to me. The menu and background should be tweeked to give a better flow.
These are just a few of my ideas, how does the community feel? What would you like to see happen in this respect?
I've been thinking about it more. If enough people show support and/or help add to the concept then I'll make some pictures to go along with the suggestion. I saw another thread that I feel goes hand in hand with this one. I'll add it to the OP in a minute.
Small but would appeal more to new players. The minecraft.app does need the new logo.
Agreed, but I still think that the whole 'feel' of Minecraft outside of the game needs an overhaul. Notch has a chance to make a real high-class video game here. It's our duty as fans to help him and the Mojang crew as much as we can.
Agreed. It's just a little bit... Lacking I guess. One thing that I would like to see on the Minecraft Site is complete Patch notes. Knowing what changed and when is one of my favorite things to read through.

That's a great idea. I think I'll expand it to "Update and Patch Notes", a change log from version to version. It would be cool if Mojang openned the old .jar files to download someday.

Agreed. A lot of games allow back patching (like WoW and a couple of other games I can think of). This is good for running private servers of a specific update or stuff like that.

I'd also like to see a more devoloped 'First Days' guide. I understand that the community has the MCWiki to aid us, but new players may not realise that. A quick guide full of easy-to-understand pictures, on minecraft.net would allow people to get a better idea of what Minecraft is before they buy it.
Here's the link since the search is still down.
