This is an idea that came to me as an easy/creative way to make bows more diverse.
How it works.
When the bow is in your inventory, you can right-click on it to select weather right-clicking will fire the bow, or place it.
When "place" is selected you can place the bow on the ground. It would be 1 block wide. Right-clicking on the bow with an arrow will put an arrow in the bow. Right-clicking a third time will fire it.
-If placed on the top part of a stair block, the bow will be positioned at a 45 degree angle.
-The bow can be placed on all sides of a block (perhaps not the bottom, because that defies gravity).
Pros/Cons
+Puts some creativity in bows
+Stairs will give it a longer range
+Cheaper than a dispenser
-Dispenser does virtually all the same things, and it has inventory
-Lower fire rate than a normal bow
-Stationary
Hurm. This really doesn't seem all that great of an idea. Just seems kinda pointless since we have the dispenser.
Although I think it would be nice to hang a bow on your wall as decoration. But in all honesty this just doesn't seem all that useful.
Technically this allows for 4 bows in 3 blocks, which is better than the dispenser.
I just don't see this being all that useful since I can stack two dispensers and just demolish anyone one in my way by using a redstone clock. It just seems kinda useless though like I said I wouldn't mind mounting a bow on the wall.

The dispenser is much more expensive than this.
I don't mean to bash
But the dispenser is much more useful. (IE, being able to work with redstone, throw anything etc.) And really when you think about it, Why would you want to do this? Part of a bows benefit is being mobile, it would be a really slow stationary bow. :/ Seems to defeat the purpose to me.

I wanted a way to make ballistas, and this seemed like a good idea.
OK now that's something completely different. What your suggesting here is a bow with all the good bits removed. A ballista should have increased damage of some kind, and maybe the possibility to destroy certain blocks. With that perspective this looks a little more reasonable.

Yeah... maybe i'll re-think this out to be more specific to a ballista. I wanted to keep the creativity open so I didn't mention a ballista as the goal for this thread.

How? So if you right click it to do EVERYTHING how do you do anything? Would you fire the bow and place it at the same time? Would you place and change the setting at the same time? Would you fire and change the setting at the same time? I am confused.

Ladies and gentlemen, Hell has frozen over, and Satan is putting on ice skating shows for charity.

It would have 2 options
A: Place
B: Fire
You can't choose both, and this would be done in your inventory not while equipped.
I like what you want to achieve here but making it more like a ballista would be more beneficial since the only ups t your idea is that it is cheaper and that you can fire at better angles. A ballista would add more range and damage and would still give you the feel of a mounted bow.

"That's a nice everything you have there, it would be a shame if something happened to it."
