I know there have been many magic suggestions,but i have a new more stable concept that would also resolve the issue of dyes not having too many uses.
My concept is based on runes, not runecrafts runes that concept is blindly compluded and complex.
My concept is that runes would be created using dye's and other rarer materials, the runes would have different effects based on what level they are and on what element they represent (the colour of the dye used)
These runes would have different uses from the same item, like if you used a life rune on water it would bless the water for a period of time (depending on rune level) to heal the player if he stands in it by for example half a heart per 2 seconds.
The runes would be crafted in a crafting table, they would be actual items that the player carries in his inventory.

And could have a self use,an friendly character use (ur friends),an enemy use and a use on liquids and special uses on some of the other blocks in the game.
Each rune would have a different effect on different blocks,enemies and even tools.
For example the life rune if used on an enemy which is undead (skeleton ,zombie) the enemy would actualy be damaged by it.
While if you used something like Arcane (magneta dye) it would actualy heal them or if used on ur allies shield or enchant their tools.
This concept would add much needed use for dye's and a great fun experiance for people who have enought of the materials to use them.
