So, I was walking along the waterside in South Carolina (USA), and I was looking at a granite water fountain, and it got the idea that I was thinking about all that night. So, granite could be a block in minecraft, personally it would be great for looks, depending on how the texture would come out. Iron pickaxes up could break it, and it would have a break rate similar to a furnace. But the question is, what would it look like. Would it be a cobble texture modification like netherrack? Or would it be grainy like gravel? I guess we will only know this if Notch prefers to put this into the game.

Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz CPU / MSI P67A-G43 B3 Motherboard / G.Skill Sniper 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) RAM / MSI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone PE/OC Graphics Card / XFX 80+ Bronze 650W Power Supply / Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 7200RPM Hard Drive / NZXT Gamma Classic Case
Love it but...
How would u make it?
Would it be natural?
Would pistons affect it?
I would think it would be made of gravel, then fired in the furnace
I also think it would be natural, a few layers around 50-70.
And Considering pistons affect everything cept bedrock and obsidian, yeah.

Yes that is a bad idea.
Heh. Craft granite? Get the hell out of South Carolina. There's whole mountains of it just sitting around where I live. It's literally hard for me to understand someone looking at granite and thinking it's special. I always assumed that the gray stone was granite. I wanna see some more variation in stone types too, though. Plain gray stone becomes granite, while marble, basalt, more realistically placed sandstone, and probably a few other rock types I can't think of are added. I'm not a geologist. Maybe something greenish. Perhaps a distinct hue or two for certain rock types, like green granite or rosy marble. Among these, marble ought to be rarest by far unless there is to be something even more sought out. I think it would work really well if rock type were determined by variables that change smoothly across the terrain, kinda like the temperature/humidity variation to determine biomes.
I wouldn't mind more stones being added for looks marble and granite would be nice additions, and it would be nice if certain biomes had different materials in it to make each biomes some what different.

White/other colored Marble, different colored/patterned granite, cement, GRAPHITE!!, Lead maybe? How about Silicon? Or Cherry wood. Just some new block ideas.
Marble would be nice for my Roleplay Server, we need nicer looking materials that AREN'T flammable!
Granite, from what I've learned in earth science classes, is usually multiple different rock types smashed together by natural pressure, so maybe you craft a crude block of random stones or rocks or ores and then smelt that block in a furnace and you get a nice combo of rocks all in one!
Cement is kind of a given, made out of sand and water buckets or something like that.. (Asphalt and Cement is made with a mixture or antifreeze, seashells, and other minerals/objects) so we can use it for pathways or foundations.
Graphite would be pretty useful for basically nothing. But it would be kind of cool to create a pencil or something out of wood, clay, and graphite and write in books with it until it breaks, or on paper. Would also be useful for my roleplay server so people can see laws, rules, etc.
Lead, I Have no clue what it could be used for but it just kind of sounds good, maybe be used for paints (lol) or something?
Silicon for increasing the conductivity of redstone, so the limit isn't only 15 blocks. Maybe it could increse the redstone charge to travel 5 more blocklengths when redstone wiring or dust is placed on top of it.
Cherry wood is just epic looking, everybody knows that.

Bricks.
Sandstone.
Coloured Wool.
I support this idea by the way, I would like something new to build with.
Sandstone, for if you live in a desert and need to make house. Sand cant really make houses.
Colored wool for pixel art but yeah its kinda useless
and you win at brick.
I would love this but Im just thinking about people may not want it due to this fact and because why not improve on more important things.
How to not die in a cave
Listen to this man. I agree.

Just a few ideas for blocks I came up with.
