I have a super easy solution for you, Don't play Minecraft. Accept it for what it is or Don't play it if you dont like it.
Did you even read his post? He brought up several relevant points. You're not even commenting on what he said. You're just assuming that he dislikes lightning, and therefore shouldn't play Minecraft. If everyone who didn't like any specific aspect of the game had to leave, the game would have no players whatsoever. The actual "super easy solution" would be to listen to and address the problems stated. I'm sure if we acted civilized rather than randomly flaming, we could come to a solution that works for everybody. Unfortunately, given the state of this forum, I doubt that will ever happen.
Now I'm wondering what Muncher would think.
Thanks :smile.gif:. Yeah I dont understand how people are so opposed to criticism. If nothing were criticized, nothing would improve. Hey Pie, I have a super easy solution for you. Dont like opinions besides your own? Get off the forums.

Agreed. That was actually quite aggressive for me. The one thing I hate the most is a person who is too blind to even recognize that they might just have one flaw, or that just once, they might be wrong. I can stand stubbornness, as long a person will at least listen to arguments.

I wasnt actually serious that he should leave the forums, but it was probably unneeded and only adding fuel to the fire. I didnt intend any meanieness. That is, if by "quite aggressive for you", you were referring to what I said. If not...disregard that :smile.gif:. But yeah, I know what you mean. I dont mind people who disagree with me either as long as their "argument" isnt something like "thats stoopid gtfo!". I should probably ignore those people more often.

I figured you weren't being serious. And I was talking about the post I made being aggressive for me. I'm usually a quite peaceful person.
The idea that people shouldn't build with wood or wool is ridiculous. You're talking about taking away a huge part of the creativity of the game. These are the materials that allow builders to avoid using cobblestone for everything, so that they can avoid a monotony of textured gray.
It's also not very realistic considering it was (and still is) quite common for large expanses of neighborhoods to be built entirely with wood (with the houses fairly close together). I live in one of these places, have seen many thunderstorms, and have never seen the neighborhood burn down.
Removing lightning is the wrong solution. First, they should reduce the speed at which fire spreads. Second, it should only be able to spread to adjacent blocks with a tiny, tiny chance of jumping a block. Third, only a fraction of bolts in a given storm should hit the ground. Most terminate in the cloud layer.
EDIT: Basically, it remains possible for lightning to burn down the town made of wood, but most players will never see it happen.
I want to build a house out of wool that doesn't explode, because I want it to be red. It's my right to make a house out of whatever I want with whatever qualities I want.

Ah ok. Dont worry, I dont think it was too aggressive. Im generally peaceful too, but if someone pokes me the wrong way I wont hesitate to snap if they demonstrate extra...specialness.

Can't accept the realism? Go back on creative.
Do you realize how empty and basic classic is? I like a lot of the features of SSP and SMP, but I dont like that lighting can destroy stuff. The solution is not to stop playing Minecraft or to play classic. The solution, I think, is to put it in a seperate game mode (a happy medium). The same game mode where hunger, thirst, and temperature will be implemented. Makes perfect sense to me and im open to debate. Real debate.
Guys, **** off. I know what it's like to spend a lot of time on a project, just to have it ruined. I built a massive city wall. Took weeks of gathering sandstone. It was 12 blocks high, 5 blocks thick, and it covered a 100x70 area. After I finished, our server had a massive rollback... And I was back to before I had even started. It's not this guy's fault that his town was burned down. He had probably been working on it far before lightning came out, and wasn't expecting lightning to cause fires. Don't try to act like you wouldn't be a little pissed off if you spent a month on something, just to have it annihilated by an unexpected change in gameplay.

honestly, it's a beta game that keeps changing as new features are added. If you want everything to stay the same, don't update or look up what the update will change before you go for it. I think it's ridiculous to want no changes to gameplay just so the things you built however long ago can stay the same way. If that's what you want, wait for release before you build, or never update the server after you start building whatever it is you want to remain forever and untouched.
Other than that, I think it's great that flammable materials burn and you have to sacrifice aesthetics for function and cleverly combine both. Want to use wood? Section it off with cobblestone or other non-flammable materials so that any fires that occur are localized.
I think the mindset of "I want to build something out of wood, therefore, there should be nothing in the game that causes fires" is ridiculous. And this IS survival mode, I'm sure creative mode will come later, and I'm sure there will be a mix between the two. I definitely don't think Mojang should worry about not including things like lightning just so people can build anything out of anything and have it remain there forever.
ok I build out of wood sometimes but if i was worried about lightning then I would build a cobblestone roof( I heard that prevents lightning catching your house on fire) If that doesn't work then who know lightning rod sounds like a good idea so we can keep lightning and the people who whine can prevent fires.

But don't you see? If it already exists in the game or if Notch says so, the issue is moot because things Notch says are infallible therefore our opinions are useless. /sarcasm
People, Notch is not above criticism. Remember when people bitched and moaned about the possible mod fee that Notch reconsidered immediately?
By the way, real wood doesn't vanish into thin air after it burns up so take your "realism" ******** and shove it.
To the OP, sucks that it happened but I don't agree that lightning should be removed.

Minecraft. The game where you can have fun building things, but only if you have fun like everyone else.*

END THREAD.
This guy is incorrect. I agree that realism can sometimes make a game better, but i will forsake it in a heartbeat if it negatively affects gameplay.
He may not have known the lightning rod mod existed, or he doesn't like to use mods.
He probably built it out of wood to make it themed or simply because he likes the look of wood.
I think I might just make a mod disabling lightning for this to go away
I will be using them soon
I'm Starting to be known as a Balancer, A.K.A. I'm starting to become pessimist
