Currently there is only one idea, because pictures take time to make. And you know what? I'm not gonna post an idea without a visual. So here is what I have gotten to:
Cloth Clothing
My characters avatar currently looks like this:
Because it is more fun to pretend that the armor is also your "clothes". Of course, the only problem with this is that the armor is constantly breaking. So I suggest clothes for the aesthetic value of it. They would be made like normal tiered armor, but when equiped they would offer no armor and take no damage. It would be just like not wearing it. Now that may sound silly, but I am here to tell you it is. Purely aesthetic. (And since armor constantly breaks, most people don't waste things like iron on 3 suits of armor. Generally most people would wear cloth until they got enough diamond for armor, as it doesn't break in like three seconds.)
Here are the sprites I wipped up. And don't say they look lame, because they go with the style of the game. Added a nice "cloth" feel to it as well...
On top of being able to make white clothing, you would be able to make any color clothing that you have cloth for. I believe the best way to do this would be to make a seperate sheet primarly for the clothes. That way you could have any color clothes you want in-game and not worry about missing out on like 30 or so item spaces that could have been more cake.
Paintings
When you place a painting, it will be like normal, choosing a random size and painting. However, there is a new recipe, the quill:
When you right click on a painting with the quill, it will become a custom painting (So you can carry it around and place it again and it will have the same picture), and it will open the painting gui:
In this you can edit the painting using inks. The painting shown is just a reference to what you can draw, when you right click on the painting it clears it. The reason for this is because when you erase pixels you get 1 ink use back.
In order to make painting ink, you must combine the dye you have chosen with a bowl. Each ink has 100 uses, each use converting to 1 pixel. If you erase a pixel to an ink you do not have, you will get that ink back with only 1 use.
In order to erase, you need a bucket of water. In order to cut, copy, paste, select, or move, you must have a stamp. The stamps recipe is as follows:
Cutting works the same as erasing, you get all the ink back until you use it again (Like when you paste the cut image). If you attempt to paste something that you do not have enough ink for, nothing will happen. When you have the stamp and bucket of water, the gui looks like this:
Clicking on the inks on the sides picks that color and converts your mouse from whatever you were doing back to the quill. If the ink you are using runs out, it will break and you will simply stop coloring.
Building on Boats
Nah I'm just kidding.
Well I will continue to add as the days roll on, hope you like it. No, I really don't care. But, I kinda do.
And also, some of my ideas I will be posting in the future will get responses like "People will grief with that", so I am gonna hammer that out now. If somebody adds something which allows more custimization to the game, are people going to abuse it? Yes. Are people going to love it? Yes. Is griefing already a problem even without more custimization? Yes. Therefore, since your point has nothing to do with things actually not working like physical hard limits or crappy gui's, your point is invalid. INVALID.
You see......I don't get it, why do you want cloth clothing. Perhaps for a RP-style maybe but for other player (non-RPers) it's kinda pointless, maybe putting a request for a mod or somethning would be better for you and others who want this
Yes but see here, I don't want a mod for this. I want it hardcoded into the game. And yes, it is pointless, so what do you have to lose if it was added? It's just for the people who wanna have a little fun role playing.
I think it will add to the servers a lot,
I like the idea, but i think it should be Clothes or Armor, and not both,
When knight wears an armor, He has black clothes beyond his armor,
So it should be when u want an armor, You need to put those black clothes.
Are you saying you want to wear clothes under armor? I suppose that is a good idea, you could combine armor with clothes in the crafting bench. Only problem with that is it would take a while to make all the sprites, but if Notch is willing, it is a worthy idea.
Colbalt32, did you read the post? He proposed a second items.png for this. Meaning the original items.png will be the same.
This doesn't mean I agree to this. I can't see much of the point, to be frank.
I know, but that second items.png might take up memory space that could be used for more things, would it not? It's not that it's a bad idea, it's just kinda low on the list of things I'd want to see in main-game Minecraft.

I think notch could add thousands of item sheets before it would make a difference. I really see no point in the memory argument, you really have nothing to lose.

Room for more stuff cooler than this.
second.
Wraiths: Boss-like mob for Hard!
There's an idea; why not make a "Tailorcraft" mod?
