I was thinking about adding locks into minecraft.you could craft the lock like this: []
and an unpickable lock like this: []
This would make better doors because you dont need a hidden switch or anything, but place a lock on a door wood or iron and then nobody can open it but the person with the key. a key can be crafted like this:
[] [] []
[] [] []
AND then you right click the lock with it. it would come up with a box that you could write a message in so you remember what key goes in what door. once thats done, no other keys can be right clicked on that door so no one can get in, but then you can walk to it then right click the door with the key and it unlocks the door. then you can right click it again to lock it.
A pick would give you a chance to open someone elses door. it could look like this:
[] [] [] []
[] [] []
it would give you a 10% chance of unlocking the door. if you fail, it breaks. if you successfully unlock it, you keep your pick. An unpickable lock can be picked, obviously.
I think it is a bad one, myself, as well as being AS. Gold is very underused and easy to get, so it is good that you try to give it more uses. How would there be a variation in keys? How would you set a lock to a key? I personally think you should not have locks that need keys.
It could be a good idea, but it carries with it a problem; people are lazy. If a thief sees a house is locked, all he has to do is break a wall or something and they are in. This contribution would be relatively useless considering that.
Or they can just dig the tile on which the door has been placed, and thus, pop the door open (literally), gaining access to your house.
The concept makes sense, but the problem lies within the game. However, a simple protection mod on multiplayer servers, where other players can't destroy blocks in a certain area, would solve that problem right away.
Then, all you need is a normal iron door, as those require power of some sort to open/close
Yeah... but what if the people made their home of obsidion? or another HARD TO DIG block? a brick home for instance? or jail cells? even just places that you want random people walking past think that they might take a look, find it locked so they move on.
another thing is that you could just dig under the floor to get rid of the door, but what id the lock made the block the door is on harder? but your right, they COULD just mine the walls....
Yeah unfortunately unless Notch adds in some ability to secure the rest of your constructions from other players so they can't just break through your walls. Locks are sorta pointless, Unless everyone started building their houses out of bedrock.
Tho I do like the idea of being able to lock my doors.
It just needs some more support Ideas to get adopted before it is viable.
Also Notch would need to implement the supporting security ideas in such a way as they could not be readily exploited by griefers. Or you would come back to your house and all your doors would be blocked with unbreakable (to you) cobblestone.
hmmm... yes. I feel like having it on singleplayer, as Notch posted about towns and people inhabiting them. well I think that the people wander around and can enter your home and steal your stuff. locks would stop that. also locks on CHESTS are a good idea arnt they?
