Alright I have an idea that I think would make the game a little more convenient. A lot of the time when I'm on long mining trips I take multiple tools, usually 4 pickaxes and 4 shovels made of stone or iron. However, these tools eventually run out and I am forced to return to my house to get more tools. Sometimes I can craft more where I'm mining, but often I dont have all the needed supplies like sticks or iron ingots. So, I think that crafting tables should have slots for tool storage, as seen in the picture below.
Now this wouldn't do much good if you could only have 1 of each tool. The solution would be allow stacking of tools. Not to 64 though, that would be to big of an advantage. I think that a 16 tool limit would be fair and productive.
It really makes sense to have tool storage. After all you can see tools on the side of the crafting bench anyway
I have a slightly similar suggestion but one I think might work better:
If you place a Crafting Bench next to a single Chest block, you get a Deluxe Crafting Table, which is the same dimensions as a Double Chest, and has the same amount of storage space, but can also be clicked on to access the 3x3 crafting grid. Basically the only point of it would be to save building space in tight workshops and waystations.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.

Hmm, I just thought of something about the Deluxe Crafting Table, is that it will make Double Chests obsolete. Maybe the Deluxe Crafting Table shouldn't have quite as much space as a Double Chest. Or maybe implement the "tools only" idea from the original poster here.

I was thinking about this, and I got to thinking that Minecraft really needed a Saw. But then I realized: the Saw is built into the Crafting Bench. The only time you'd ever use a saw is when you're at the crafting bench. So what I'm saying is, the bench is already full of tools.

"Delux Workbench" needs to get posted by somebody. That would be so dandy! It might interfere with people trying to make normal workbenches right next to multiple normal chests, so to simplify matters a "Delux Workbench" is made by
1) Place a workbench
2) Placing a chest on the side of that workbench ("Delux Bench"), top of that workbench ("Ugly Workbench") or under the workbench ("Closetlike Workbench") The last one allows accessing the DWB without looking down, and would mostly exist as an effecient, cosmetic option.

Any comments/improvements would be appreciated
