So I've been toying around with this idea for a while, and decided finally I had a pretty good idea as to what I shall have.
Featuring: lava gamemode!
So What Is it?
To put it in a nutshell, the player has, say, either 5 or 10 days to prepare for the lava onslaught. Once it hits that 5th (or tenth) day, and then a whistle would blow. Everything but bedrock and special items (to be explained) will slowly turn to lava, starting from level 1 all the way to the highest blocks can go. Then, they stay that way for, say, 2-3 minutes before coming back down, replacing the land as it was before. (that last part is a little tricky, I know.)
Wait just a gosh darn minutes! How do you even survive?
I thought about this for a while. Stone, dirt, ores and all that jazz would HAVE to turn into lava, or else the game wouldn't work. So i decided the player can start with about 4-5 stacks of....bedrock.
BEDROCK? Are You Kidding Me?
Calm down there. Listen, bedrock has tons of cons. For one, you can't remove it when you place it. Also, if you are dumb enough to seal yourself inside, you'll never get out. Bedrock would be perfect for this, unless you consider something ELSE that wouldn't turn to lava reasonable enough to make a house out of. MAYBE soulsand or obsidian...
So What Else?
Some fun facts: all trees, flowers, pumpkins, water, and every other natural item that isn't stuff like ores and stone, will be obliterated. Mobs too. So you better start punching trees and getting saplings, they WONT COME BACK. Wood, chests, buttons, levers, bookshelves, wool, diamond/gold/iron blocks, bricks, clay blocks, furnaces, workbenches, logs, iron doors and wooden doors (along with other alike objects) would not be destroyed UNLESS THE WOODEN ITEMS ARE CAUGHT ON FIRE. Anyway, pressure plates WILL turn to lava, to prevent glitches. Minecart tracks and minecarts will just melt unless picked up or placed on bedrock.
Couldn't Someone Just Make a 1x1 Tower?
Yes they could. But who cares? Where's teh challenge or fun in that? It's like hacking and glitching: those who do it in singleplayer do it, we can't stop them. Lets not let it ruin our fun.
And The Nether?
Yes it would happen in the Nether also. Netherrack would turn to lava. As would glowstone and soulsand. Unfortunately for the nether, the roof will become lava. Um, might want to save some of that bedrock for the nether, huh?
Why Would You Add This
It adds a completely unique and challenging mode to this game. I've never heard of any other game that has anything close to this, and it definetly would be a start for minecraft.
That is all. :V Critcism is nice, and I am 100% I am missing something really important. Oh well.
WTF is with all these "<Factor X> Onslaught" threads popping up?
I've seen Zombie, Creeper, Nether Creatures, and now environmental factors, all of them just today. What's next?
"Air onslaught! Air will slowly replace every block, starting from the top until you reach bedrock!"

Sorry, i've had this idea since I first found lava, thinking it was dumb just sitting there being boring and such.
It might be hard to make.
I wish I was in this :C
That's my main problem. I know NOTHING about coding.
I think you should...
Yes, what about it? This has absolutely nothing to do with my suggestion.
What, the super rare lava glitch that was patched? Completely different from this.
