I've been fooling around in my world light areas up with things other then torches. I started with jack-o-lanterns obviously, but those look kind of silly unless you're going for a Halloween look. Then I started using lava. Digging channels in the ground, filling them with lava, and capping it with glass. I liked this though it at least LOOKS really dangerous especially in a forest/wooden area. None the less I am looking forward to pistons so I can try and make some floodgates to have on/off lights.... Anyway...
That brings me to glowstone. It's great, I rather use it then any other source of light but it's a pain in the ass. One piece of glowstone dust per block broken and it takes nine to make one block... I have to pretty much empty the nether of the stuff to do anything substantial. I get that it should be hard to get but I still think the blocks should have a chance at least to drop more.
Also, it would be cool to be able to say, coat a mushroom in glowstone dust to make a glowing mushroom as a, perhaps weaker, torch alternative. It would give an extra use for all those mushrooms and glowstone dust. Maybe you could even mix it with dyes to get different colours.
I like the glowing mushroom idea, and the sandwich thing, but you should post them in seperate threads, along with as many other options as possible (rather than just posting the sandwich idea in a thread, post the sandwich idea, along with speculations about how sandwiches in general, and maybe some other foodstuffs, could be implemented)
So glowstone dust with mushrooms makes glowing mushrooms. That sounds like they are radioactive or something. But I think glowstone isn't suppose to be a common light source. Although it would be nice if they dropped more than 1 maybe like 1-3 at most though.

I figured glowing mushrooms would make sense because there are actually luminescent mushrooms in nature.
I actually don't mind glowing mushrooms. Just seems like an unnecessary thing. Kinda like sandstone it was like oh look a new stone then you make it and never make it again. I know people actually use it is just I have one desert on my map and I don't go there so it isn't really worth it.
go to you tube and look up pork chop sandwiches for those who don't get it lol.
I would like an alternative to torches as well as they are kind boring to look at. I like the idea of 1 glow stone and 1 stick to make 4 slightly better torches

Anyway, wondering what everyone thinks?
Also porkchop sandwiches.
The rest...Yeah, sure.
