My Idea is somewhat different Different.
Here's How to Craft It:
Where = Redstone Repeater
and = Redstone Dust
You'll Also need to craft the Remote Terminal
[] []
[] []
Where = Wool (can be red, Green, Yellow, or Blue)
and = Redstone Torch
Pre-Prep:
Place the terminal where you want the current to go. Note: The color Wool used in the recipe determines "frequency"
Usage: Left click while holding the remote will send current to red-frequency terminals (by default). By pressing right click, a menu will open up that will allow you to select frequencies, set toggleability for each frequency, and will detect any terminals in range.
Notes: The remote will only activate terminals that are in a 25 block radius from the player.
If there are multiple terminals in range of the same color frequency, both will be activated.
Possible Uses:
Remote Door Control
Remote TNT Detonation
Remote Minecart Summoning (think of the booster tracks)
A use for Gold :tongue.gif:
The one possible problem that this idea can encounter is its high-techness... I know there is a fine line between innovative and unrealistic. If Convinience has to be limited, I suggest removing the whole "frequency" concept and just have the remote acitvate all terminals.

Gold... What else can you make with Gold? The Watch, Golden apples, and Booster tracks. Aside from Obsidian, It's one of the most useless resources in the game... In fact, Obsidian could be argued to be more useful because It can make Portals and Bomb Shelters.

Not bad. Has lots of potential for "secure" devices.
Yeah... If Notch Added block ownership or something to identify who placed what, the remote control would be invaluable on multiplayer, especially if greifing is an issue or if one has... nosy neighbors. :tongue.gif:
It'd Be like an electronic Keycard.
Then Perhaps a buddy systems could be implemented, so that "friends" can use your terminals.
