Hate making an SMP server and having it destroyed by griefers? Even white lists don't work on some of these- most griefers expect to be banned. Even when you do ban them, the damage is still there, and it can go from being a wall destroyed to have a gallery or city.
So I have come up with a solution, that can be very easily implemented, since it is already in SSP. Along with being able to view another players skin, you would be able to view another players SMP statistics. This would show
-Ratings from other players
-Amount of blocks placed }
-Amount of blocks destroyed } These three allow you to see if a player is collecting materials, or just breaking things
-Amount of blocks picked up }
-Amount of IPs connected to }
-Amount of connections } Since griefers sometimes jump servers, this shows if they stay with specific servers.
-Amount of connections this week
-Mobs killed
-Players killed
-Total damage dealt
-Total damage received
As you can see, this can also be used as a "bragging rights" type page, for those who are into that.
That's all I got now. I'll edit this later as I get more thoughts on it.
Or, even better, you can just ask your server owner to get the anti-griefing mod
This doesn't only affect griefing, it can be used for other things. Also, not all servers run anti-griefing mods, and mods do not solve overall problems, they just put in a small patch that really doesn't get rid of the underlying problem. This would be in the vanilla and would remove the problem for everyone.
Plus, I can see those who would like "griefing" to a certain extent. Now, yes, "they can just get the anti-griefing mod", but that still doesn't remove the overall problem.
This seems kinda creepy, like your taking information and useing it, kinda like airport scanners, people think its for the good of all but some people think its a viloation of privacy.

Let's suffice to say I don't think using frickin flint and steel is going to light moss on fire...
Wait wait wait. I just build a subway in the nether.. which is like 1x3x2000. So that, plus the fact that I've been mining alot, plus the fact that I enjoy trying out new servers every week - alot of which are pvp.. means by your standards I'm an epic griefer.
How many blocks you break has nothing to do with whether you are a griefer or not. I think a better idea is to have an inter-server player comment system. So server admins (or whoever) can leave comments about particular players. and/or a simple rating system - like a thumbs up thumbs down sort of thing.
