If there is one thing Minecraft is sorely lacking, it is mobs that are rare enough to be worth searching for; for the most part, you can have encountered every mob in the game within a few Minecraft days, if you're willing to go hunting for wolves in their special biomes. This makes it so that all of the mobs become old and stale, offering nothing new or fantastic to gameplay; this is why peope create monster traps, because fighting monsters becomes boring, and they spawn frequently enough that these traps are effective. It is my hope to rectify this.
Rarenar
The rarenar is a fairly large beast, standing maybe 1.5 times the size of a person (so not ridiculously huge, but large enough to come off threatening). It walks on six legs, each of which have claws, and its head is that of a tyrannosaurus rex, with fierce red eyes and a maw filled with fangs. Its tail is long and powerful, and on each of its shoulders it wears the teeth of a beast far larger than itself, which it killed many years ago...
Imaginative descriptions aside, you probably get the idea: the rarenar is a force to be reckoned with. Its eyes will glow in the dark - like a spider - and it is capable of dealing quick, powerful blows of 4 hearts each. Its speed will be a bit higher than most other mobs - perhaps at 1.5 the speed of a spider (since 1.5 seems to be our lucky number thus far) - making it difficult to flee.
However, while it is powerful, it spawns VERY infrequently for that very reason. Its spawn rate will be 1/25th that of most other monsters in the dark, and only one will spawn per every 4-5 chunks or so (that way you don't end up with multiple rarenar's pursuing you). Additionally, it will not despawn in the sunlight, but - like the spider - it will be passive-aggressive during the day, meaning that it will not attack you unless provoked to do so.
As for drops, I plan on having it have the chance of dropping 1-2 mossy cobblestone, in addition to the possibility of already-smelted iron ingots. The mossy cobblestone is because the rarenar appears so infrequently that it would be as if encountering a dungeon. Iron ingots are simply there as filler, and would be replaced should something better be put in place by Notch (perhaps a Nether ore, if anything like that ever arises?).
So that's what I've got for now. If you like it, please comment! If you don't, tell me why! While I would prefer to keep the core stuff, some of the smaller details (drops, spawn location/rate) I'm flexible on.
idea isn't that bad, but I wounder what it would attack with. Just so I can understand the animation it would look like. I don't think you need to worry about how many spawn in one chunk since it would have a 1/25 chance of spawning. I do agree that the drops would need to be better, but I know it was just to give a idea. The name I could care less about either way.

Well, considering it would be running at you, then most likely its jaw. To fit with the rest of Minecraft, though, it would still just look as if it were charging at you, though; the head and claws wouldn't do anything special, I don't think, as far as an attack animation would go.
Yeah, I'm not sure how the coding works as far as spawn rate for the other monsters/animals, so I figured I would just add more requirements to make sure it wouldn't spawn too often.
SO because I think your idea is worthless I am trolling? Right because that is the only logical conclusion.
No, because you can't even bother to say anything remotely constructive you are trolling. If all you say is "this idea sux", you're trolling. And that's exactly what you're doing.

Curse PremiumFor one, I've been using the rarenar (pronounced "rare-e-nahr") for some time now, I didn't just pull this out of my a$$ for a "rare" mob.
2. Unless you can provide any suggestions to actually HELP the idea, keep your trolling at a minimum.
3. I know the drops are bad, but I decided not to create any new items for the purpose of keeping this simple.
