I know the name sounds pretty corny, but the concept is simple and practical. The Enchanted Longbow is just like the normal bow but with one advantage and one disadvantage. The advantage is that it shoots straight instead of curving downward (Thats why I added the word "Enchanted", to explain why the arrows seem to violate gravity, lol). The downside is that it fires a LOT slower than the normal bow (If we allowed it to fire as fast as a normal bow then it would be the equivalent of some sort of sniper machine gun, way too overpowered).
Now that I've explained the basic concept of it, I'd like some help in dealing with the finer details, such as what is needed to make it and exactly how slow it is.
I think that it should probably have at least one rare item in the crafting recipe. Maybe a gold ingot or possibly a diamond depending on how difficult it should be to obtain this. If it needs to be REALLY hard, then requiring bones instead of sticks for the frame would add a good deal of complexity and mesh well with the strange/other-worldly/magical theme. Here are a few of my ideas for what the recipe could be: = String = Bone

As for how long the delay should be between shots, how about 2 or 3 seconds? Possibly 4 or 5, I think 6 or more is a bit too much.
Give me any feedback you have. Don't like it? Like it? Want to make a change to it? Please don't give me anything rude like "I want to kill myself after reading that horrific suggestion". I've seen similar responses in other threads and I think it's really childish. I'm a noob at making suggestions and this is my first one.

Nikodimov - What about bow aiming time which increases the damage and range to some extent?
notch - That's coming =)
Interesting... That's still quite different than a new, enchanted bow.
Not in function. The only difference is that it has less of a curve rather than no curve at all and that it does a bit more damage. The only reason I made it "enchanted" was because I didn't want to make this suggestion without giving any explanation as to how it was capable of ignoring gravity.
But then again, almost everything in the game already ignores gravity without any explanation lol.

A high-poundage warbow would have a VERY straight arc until most of the energy bled from the arrow. It'd also need much heavier arrows, which in turn would have a much greater amount of force to slam into the target.
There's no magic in heavy-poundage warbows. Although pulling them back can be a REAL backache, so it'd make more sense that if you shot too fast you'd lose a heart, or you just couldn't fire more than a few shots within a minute, or whatnot. Your shoulder would surely protest.
Man, I need to go down to the archery range tomorrow, now. Missing the weekend has made me twitchy, bahah.

Fire And Ice
Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice

Well then there goes the need for any enchantments, lol. That would be cool. I also think it would fit nicely to have slightly more damage per shot. This sort of weapon would be really useful for clearing out large groups of mobs because it offers a different strategy than having to engage all of them up close.
Perhaps, rather than making the BOW harder to make, use the SAME bow with different ARROWS! For example, use bones rather than sticks, iron ingots for the tip, and/or make Spider Jockeys drop them. That way, there is a disadvantage to the new weapon. If you don't like this, then you could just do something like crafting the arrows from a normal arrow and an iron ingot. Also, I would like to take this chance to suggest my OWN arrow version: Flaming Arrows. Basically, putting an arrow in the oven will instantly (That is, there is no wait between the time you put the arrows in and the time they become these) make them flaming arrows. These arrows light whatever they hit on fire. Nothing else. The drawback is that you're just as likely to hit a tree or your house as a nearby creeper or a skeleton archer.
2.) give it SOME arc, and have it do 4 hearts of damage.
3.) make the ammo and weapon crafting recipe more expensive than the bow or arrow.
4.) Much slower rate of fire
This would be the the perfect antithesis to the bow. The bow is a medium range rapid fire and cheap weapon. A crossbow/primitive rifle is a more expensive, slower firing, but more accurate and higher damage variation of the bow.

Or make both different.
