First off, i HAVE searched for this idea via google and i couldn't find anything, And this isn't a be a mage level up class thing, this is more like... starter bonuses.
I'm trying to keep it easy to implement and I'm not going to make like 300 classes, just simple bonuses i think would be easy to implement.
O.k so i think that when you enter a multiplayer game that a little window should pop up, giving you the power to choose your class/starter bonuses.
And yes i know people would switch between classes to get all the bonuses, so the server properties file could have a little "Class Changing Time" thing, that would basically make it so that when they choose their class, they cant disconnect and change it for, say two hours? depending on what the the server admin puts in.
Now lets get back to the topic here, the classes/starter bonuses:
Class 1 Rogue/Stealth: The Players name is constantly hidden to all players unless he/she is within 3 blocks of a player, (note: by being within 3 blocks of a player, it does not make the rogues name visible to ALL players, only the player that is close to the rogue)
Class 2 Engineer/Crafter: Constantly has a 3x3 crafting grid in the inventory, and all the tools this person uses have longer durability (don't know how that would work, up to mojang and or modders)
Class 3 Juggernaut/Strongman: Constantly has 12/15 hearts instead of 10, basically has more health (But doesn't take less damage, same damage rules apply).
Class 4 Skilled Harvester/Miner: Basically has a 50% chance to get double the items they usually get from: Diamond Ore. Coal Ore. Lapis Lazuli Ore. Redstone Ore. Glowstone. And has a 50% chance to get 2 ingots from 1 ore they smelt.
Class 5 Herbalist: Has a 10% chance to get grass blocks instead of dirt from grass they harvest, Gets double saplings from trees they cut down, gets double wheat and seeds from farming.
And that pretty much sums up my suggestion.
Mojang and modders, feel free to use this and or edit it as much as you like. just trying to help minecraft.
and if you have something to say or an objection please don't scream it or say it in full caps, say it nice and politely and everyone will listen. thanks.

Couldn't you just be able to turn off your name in Options, then?
i wish, but for some reason i don't think notch would add that.
of course, if anyone from mojang is reading this, please take that into consideration!
Alternately, it could only show your name when your model is highlighted in the crosshairs...
"When I was young, mobs were mobs and names were hidden!"
Nuff said....
