Okay, normal diamonds are cursed enough (what with lava being roughly 2 blocks away half the time) so why should there be cursed diamonds?
Whats the difference?
Well, cursed diamonds look a lot like regular diamonds, with a key difference. Cursed diamonds once found (I'll explain why 'found' and not 'mined' later) a dull red colour, and at night (sun at 15 degrees) they become black.
Where do I find these?
Cursed diamonds would be kept similarly to dungeons, and only undergound. The painful part is, the underground section must exist between 0-10 blocks below cloud height.
Are they protected?
Of course. Once you enter the dungeon, the demons inside the diamond seek to stop you. All mobs within 5 chunks become possessed (red eyes, darkened skin texture) and hostile. (This excludes dogs you own)
So how are they cursed?
Carrying a cursed diamond has the slight downside of (whenever in the players inventory) causing thunderstorms and snow to occur much more frequently, and allows mobs to spawn one light level quicker (SSP only). Also, the effect of the diamond increases according to the amount you carry. 3 diamonds results in more storms, spiders being permanately hostile, water now burns you, and when around TNT, it has a 5% of going off every minute when you are in the same chunk.
Woah! The risks definitely outway the rewards!
Not necessarily. Cursed diamonds have an inverse effect when in the nether. Less pigmen will retaliate when you attack them, ghasts fireballs will do less damage, and lava will not set you on fire. Carrying more than 3 while in the nether causes more mob drops (including gold swords) and the ability to instantly kill pigmen (this forfeits the bonus drops) Cursed diamonds that have been "cleansed" by the nether can send 3 mobs a day to the nether (basically an insta kill)
Please, comment, discuss, suggest and flame.
*EDIT* If someone would care to make a sig, I would much appreciate it. Here is the pic http://i.imgur.com/0LQPe.png
*EDIT* Cursed diamonds do not exist on peaceful difficulty.
Because it's dumb. I have no reasons. Just don't like it. Plus, mountains rarely reach cloud height, and if one did, it would have to be pretty thick to fit a dungeon in.

"A paragraph should be like a skirt: long enough to cover the content, but short enough to keep it interesting."
I don't like this idea yet, but I think it could be tweaked to be good.
The problem is that it doesn't fit into a currently existing play-style, and it doesn't create enough substance to spawn a new play-style. It is good in that it does not interfere with existing play-styles though.
Those who look for diamonds are the miners would go far underground. People who would be up on a mountain would be an explorer or builder, neither of which really need diamond access (not without facing the trials of deep underground).
Secondary concern is that this could be exploited by finding a cursed diamond and flipping over to peaceful, but the same could be said of dungeons I suppose. One could exploit it by finding a cursed diamond, quickly crafting it into a tool, and viola! no curse, but a diamond shovel, juke box, or even a diamond pick if they had 2 other diamonds with them.

I think that is the point? To make them rare and to make you get off your butt and explore for an uber huge mountain and find these suckers.

But Mountains DO reach cloud height. Quite often, in fact. A lot of people just don't notice it until they get on the mountain. And can you give me a reason as to why you think it's dumb? I'm not going against your opinion, I just want a better answer.

I'll edit it so cursed diamonds don't exist on peaceful (ghost item).
Also, cursed diamonds can't be crafted... Probalby should have mentioned that :tongue.gif:
Then what's the use? If you can't make tools/objects out of these diamonds, there is no use for them. Diamonds are only used in tools, jukeboxes, diamond blocks, or armour.
Do not want.

Diamond pickaxes, diamond swords, diamond armor, diamond shovels, jukeboxes, proposed teleporters, need I say more?
Do not want.
