storm drains- a block that water will go through, but not items.
floods- water from rains pools up and creates large lakes that soak into the ground soon after it stops raining
pipes- a way to carry water in one direction without it spilling outward, and if you dig a block next to it, water will not pour out, like it would if there were no pipe
erosion- blocks will slowly break down if they are rained on again and again, making for more realistic game-play (honey, it's time to fix the roof, etc.)
rust- metal blocks will rust, causing them to turn ugly and brown, also weakening them against TNT.
not bad but the pipes idea seems pointless as you could do that with out any mods
Actually, you couldn't, because you could technically have a water tunnel underground, but if you dug out a block adjacent to it, water would pour out. It you have pipes, you could transfer water from one place to another easily because you would not need to add source blocks all along the tunnel to keep the water flowing. If you dug out a block next to or underneath it, water would not pour out, and you could see the pipe, so you would know not to dig into it.
What would be the point of erosion? Or rust? It would be pointless.

Erosion would add a more realistic sense to the game, also giving a slowly changing landscape, and giving the necessity to replace the roofs to all of your houses/buildings once every 100 days or so. Just like in real life! Rust is caused by rain, and would weaken all metal surfaces affected by it, making them more susceptible to extreme damage from creeper or TNT. By the way, I'm sorry I didn't give more details about this in the opening post.
