So, you're wandering around the overworld, enjoying the views, listening to some great music....but what about when the music isn't playing? And those animals' noises can get pretty annoying after a while....So why not add ambience noises and visuals? For example, we could have birds chirping. I mean really, I love listening to birds when I walk outside, it's so peaceful. So why not add them? Maybe every once in a while you'll see a bird soar overhead. Birds would really make the game seem more peaceful during the day, in my opinion.
Also, after it rains, you will be able to see a rainbow. It could be faint, too. We could also turn the volume of the animals down, too.
Now just imagine for a moment: It's nighttime, raining, you're hiding out in a little cubby from the zombies. The sun starts to rise, the rain starts to stop, you walk outside. You overlook a little cliff, and see a beautiful rainbow across the vast world, and birds begin to chirp. Doesn't that just inspire you to go out and explore? Maybe not. But hey, at least I tried.
I don't think this suggestion is nearly as good as others, but I think it would be a nice little addition to the game. Maybe the birds and rainbows could only be on fancy graphics too, not fast, so that you're game won't run too slow. I have no idea how programming works, so I don't know if this would be easy to put in the game. I just thought of the idea, so sorry if this seems unorganized. Thanks for reading, any feedback is welcome!
I support completely, ambiance is an important aspect of every game and minecraft needs it. It would be cool if for every biome there would be different noises in the background. If you are in a tundra area, There would be a howling wind playing. If you are in a forest, you would hear wind and birds but the wind wouldn't be as loud as a tundra biome. Also I think it would be a good idea if ambiance had a volume meter so people don't complain about it.
I like this idea, but you know what would be very nice? hearing a waterfall. and if NPCs are ever added, and kids are some NPCs, it'd be very nice to hear little kids laugh when they walk by :smile.gif:
Oh sure, you want little kids laughing now . . . but just you wait and see . . . when you find yourself in a dark cavern and you hear little kids laughing . . . you'll be begging Notch to take it out >:smile.gif:
Anyway, I would like some natural ambiance as well, birds chirping and all that good stuff. Pretty much everything here has been suggested in the past though. I even remember making a thread suggesting wolves should howl at night if they spawn nearby. That would provide some ambiance as well as give the player a hint if they are looking for wolves to train.
Rainbows should be super rare, that way they remain kinda special when actually seen. For fun, perhaps they could make it to where it spawns as an incarnation of blocks (as opposed to a skybox thing) and then, if the player is able to get to one of the ends before it vanishes, he/she would find a small chest filled with gold ingots. Of course, this idea is a bit of a stretch, but it could be a fun little addition, as long as rainbows remain rare and disappear after a short time.

Don't pick your nose with a pickaxe. Use a shovel.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'm glad to hear that you're liking the idea! :smile.gif: And it would be cool to have gold at the end of the rainbow, it would add a nice surprise!
