Now, Lights/Lamps are light sources that can be turned on/off with redstone. Now, this sounds like a redstone torch but there are a few key differences: 1. The light is much brighter than the redstone torch 2. The light is an OUTPUT from redstone circuity, not an input. 3. Placement of the lamp (more information below) differs greatly
So this means that hitting a switch (or more likely, a level) will allow you to turn lights/lamps on/off. The main uses for this would be: 1. Aesthetics 2. Stopping mobs from spawning in a mob tower for temporary maintenance 3. Changing the type of mob spawning in a mob tower from aggressive to passive, depending on the drops the player wants
I'm sure that there are others that could come up with even more creative uses for the lamp.
A lamp takes up an entire block, unlike a torch, so you can't run through it. As such, they can be put on roofs, in walls, in floors, or just be floating in the middle of the air (if you can get power to it somehow, such as redstone on the floor), very much unlike torches.
The lamp would look similiar to a glass block, but with a light in the middle. Pretty much a big, cubic light bulb. As such, it'd likely be crafted like so:

(Note that indicates Redstone Dust and indicates Lightstone Dust)
This recipe would probably result in 4-8 light bulbs/lamps being crafted.
Yes. I support entirely. Crafting recipe is spot-on.
One problem; not with the idea, but with the thread itself:
I have a feeling you're about to be inundated with

Already suggested. Use search.
However, they can't say this because you suggested it differently. I.e., you said would be a solid block, not an intangible entity.
Maybe it would have a smaller block inside of it that looked like a bright yellow iron block?
I approve.

I tried to search it up, but nothing on the first page came close to what I was suggesting. But then google searching forums doesn't work particularly well.
Any further ideas? Any extra uses you've thought of?
And I think the lantern idea could have been killed, btw. Not sure...
