I'd like to see the size of the average instance of a biome increase to double or more of what it is presently. They just seem so, so, miniscule! I feel like I am in a toy version of a world.

Yeah... bigger biomes would be really nice. Personally I would like to have realistic sized biomes due to the 8x theoretical size (disregarding the far lands).
I agree, where my base is, I see forest, a desert and a tundra...I would rather live in one biome and travel to go to other ones for the extra materials from them.
I would love bigger similar biomes, but I also like to see change.
Perhaps grouping similar biomes together and then transitioning into other groups, like so:
(forgive me if I forget the names)
tundra, tundra, taiga, rainforest, forest, forest, plains, savannah, desert, etc

If there ever was a remote possibility that I would open Minecraft and see rocket ships and lightsabers, I'd much sooner take up alcoholism.

Search. It was everyone else's idea first, and it sucked every time.
In grasslands you're bound to see instances of small stretches of sand and a few trees, this doesn't mean you're in a different biome, it just means that sand happened to generate in your grassland biome.
I've seen biomes stretch for as far as the eye can see; though. It gets really desperate if you are generated in the middle of a desert biome and there's not a damn tree to save your life.
Also to offset the problems with spawning in the middle of a desert, I think the player should first spawn with a wooden sword and pickaxe.
NO.
The appeal of biomes is that each is unique. The desert just happens to offer more difficulty than the rest - or WOULD, if biomes were any decent size.

What? Biomes don't spawn under the ocean.
And aside from that, yes and no.

Yes they do.
And yes, I agree with this idea.

That's the best part of big biomes.
