Tonight has been a very rainy and stormy night and I thought, I'm playing in a very sunny map, when its dark and pouring rain with lightning striking everywhere outside my front door. I was thinking that maybe if it was raining outside, you could make it rain in-game, Via Weather.com (Would be most reliable). Some of you are thinking I'm sure, what If I want snow... but I live in Florida? Well say the average temperature in Florida is 80+ degrees in the summer, and the temperature that day or night decreases to 50 or 60, (noticeably cooler) It would snow in Minecraft.
tl;dr: Minecraft should have its in-game weather effected by whats going on outside in your real life. Rain when its raining out, or snow when its snowing or noticeably colder outside.
Might I add that some people wont want Real-Time weather.. So lets give them an option to whether or not they want Real-Time weather. But a restriction would be needed so people couldn't just get rid of the rain by switching to Real-Time mode, lets say if a storm has already started and you switch you must finish the storm before the switch takes place.
tl;dr: There will be people who don't want this, so make it optional, but also make it so people cant get out of a storm just by changing the setting, make them finish the storm before the setting takes place.
Another thing that might bother some of you pessimistic ones would be, "I don't want it to rain for 2 hours if its raining outside for 2 hours!". Well, lets say the storm outside has been going on for 30 minutes, then Minecraft can switch the In-game weather back to random until some other type of weather develops. This should also be default, but optional incase people want it raining for hours while its raining for hours outside.
tl;dr: If a storm outside has been going on for a extended amount of time the weather will go back to being random.
This would all be determined on a zip code you enter when creating your map. This could add some more variety when making maps.
Imagine, your come inside from shoveling your driveway, shake off the snow, take of your gloves and hang up the shovel. Then you sit at your computer and grab the old shovel and go get some snow from your front yard in Minecraft!
Hear me out for these idea's, because I for one think it would give Minecraft more of a feeling of realism. I know for a fact if it was storming badly in-game and it was outside I would be more concentrated on Minecraft.
Absolutely not. Not only would this require a weather service to participate, it would require a ton of programming to get it to work. This is just... just ****ing terrible.

No, that would get rid of the biomes, and if biome specific anmials were added to a great extend, people would have to wait an entire year to get a snow biome. Minecraft is supposed to represent the world, not one localized area, so just like the world have different regions all the time, so should minecraft.
To Byrdman, READ IT ALL! It's optional for one, and second of all I stated twice that if the same type of weather has been happening for extended periods of time then it would be set back to random.
To the first reply,
It wasn't even up long enough for you to finish reading. Also I'm not 100% sure but I do not believe participation of weather.com would be required if the game was just looking at the page and determining the temperature/weather, thats exactly what the site is made for, looking at it, and determining the weather, so I don't think it would break any TOS or anything. Also, Stop being such a pessimist and try to be a little positive about things. I don't care if you disagree with my Idea just don't be an *** about it. "Good Idea, but way to hard to program." would have been much more appreciated.

He isn't being an ass, he is pointing out how horrible your idea it is. It just doesn't work, every part of it makes me cringe srsly. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to code, then it would be useless, and I would hate it since it rains all the time where I live, most people would turn it off. This idea is REALLY bad

Well, what if he thought it wasn't a good idea? Besides, I am fairly confident that there might be problems between Mojang and weather.com if Minecraft started using it.

Not really, it it just basically visiting the website based on the zip code when you turn it on in options/log in.

Thank you! And even if it did require some type of participation of weather.com I'm sure that could easily be arranged since alot of programs I see about weather and stuff is powered by but not created by weather.com

Well, he *was* actually being an ass. That's independant of how terrible someones idea is.

Guh? "Impossible to code"? Dude, I have, like, ten apps on my iphone that do this sort of thing! We're talking about a PC-based game that's open to modification, and whose developers are very fan and mod-friendly. Somebody will have come up with a mod that does something like this eventually.
And if it really hurt you, soo soo much, to see some cool feature like in-game weather matching out-of-game weather, and you couldn't turn it off, then geez - just tell it you live somewhere else. In fact, the best way to implement a mod like this would be have the user select their own location.
So stop trolling the OP and give 'em a break, it's a thoughtful idea. Responses like yours just discourage posting.
The point is that this idea adds little to the game, other than "herp derp it's raining outside and in my game! Mind=blown" and it distracts from development of other additions that don't suck.
Goes back to random after the same weather for a while... so you get 5 minutes of whatever is really outside, then it's random again until the weather changes (maybe next day, maybe next week).
This addition adds very little, but would require all sorts of new coding, only work with an internet connection, and require some deal with a weather service.
*pulls out rejected stamp* No. *slams stamp on suggestion*
I play video games to ESCAPE reality, NOT EMULATE IT. Give me a break.
You have people who live in Hawaii whom have probably never seen a day of snow. People in Anchorage whom have never felt the harsh heat of a desert. This is not a good idea.
I've seen "It can be toggled" as a last ditch effort to sway people over, it DOESN'T work. Especially if it's used as a first ditch effort.
This would be a great idea, although I was was about to post the same thing. For those who are saying no, read it all. Turn off the setting......
If Notch doesn't do that then tell them to at least have:
Snow, Rain, Lightning, Thunder, Blizzard, Cloudless Sky, Cloudy Sky, Tornado, Hurricane, Earthquake, Tsunami, and maybe even a meteorite once and a while.

5 minutes isn't what I considered extended periods of time. Also, you make like it going back to random is a bad thing, thats what its like right now. Maybe this would encourage buying Minecraft for these internet required features.
For the last time, a deal would not be required for this.

A reason to find desert wells, make hasty crossings, & build stone firepits to set wood alight in the snow.

Talk'in bout minecraft
Most weather channels have a developer API.
No it wouldn't.
But really, rain can last for hours in the real world, which is weeks in Minecraft.
