Have you ever been playing and wished there was a minor change to the game that would just add to the ease of playing? By this I don't mean actually making the point of the game easier, but just a way to cut down on laborious tasks that lead to more clicking/button holding/mouse movement than necessary.
For example:
1. An option to toggle crouch so when you are on a platform you have more freedom to know that you won't fall off without constantly having to hold down shift. This becomes overridden when jumping.
2. The 1.5 update included the option to press shift to move a whole stack of an item from a chest to ones inventory or vice versa. I am proposing the option of when pressing shift and right clicking to store half the selected stack of items. For example, I make 64 torches, but want to take half of them with me and store half of them in my chest. Rather than right clicking, dragging, and depositing, a simple shift + right click will store them.
3. Also, the option for the normal shift + click to extend to things besides just chests. Obviously if I am "shift clicking" some iron ore while in a furnace menu, I am not attempting to use the Iron as fuel, so the game would know to put the iron in the other slot. This could work with crafting benches to move from the craft bench to inventory. Obviously the craft bench requires specific placement of materials, so "shift clicking" from inventory into the craft bench would not work.
Yes, Yes, and Yes. All of them make perfect sense. I would probably stay in Sneak mode all the time if I could. Damn Stickykeys...
As for the other ideas it just makes sense.

The fact that shift didn't work on other containers such as furnaces and workbenches immediately struck me as odd. I would love to see that changed.
These suggestions are simple to implement and immensely increase playability. I agree with them wholeheartedly.

Support the Allocator! Find my inventions such as my pressure plate removal detector on the About Me page of my profile.
I'm still looking for more feedback on my configurable Redstone Gate mod. All gates and common circuits (such as e.g. clocks, edge detectors, latches and Flip-Flops) in a single block.
One small question: logs can serve as fuel, but they can also be smelted into charcoal. How do you propose a shift-click would treat them?
Anyway, love the suggestions, particularly #2.
Yeah, I realized that this would be a weird case. I figure either one of two things could happen:
You have to drag and drop like normal the first time and then each successive time goes in that same spot. (So if I drag and drop the logs into the smelting box, each shift click afterwards would place them in the same spot until I placed a stack into the fuel box.)
or
It will by default go to the smelting box (assuming both are open), and once there is something in the smelting box, it will go into the fuel box. This is assuming that people will use wood in a furnace more often as a smelting object than a fuel object, at least early in the game before finding coal. I figure that by the time that one wants to smelt something besides wood, it would be iron and they would have found coal to use as fuel by then. As far as cooking porkchops would go, all the person would need to do would be shift-click the porkchop before the wood, thereby filling the smelting box with the porkchop leaving no other option for the wood other than fuel.
