I've seen a few ideas for the Aether, a world opposite the Nether, and thought I'd pitch in my thoughts. Many of these ideas were inspired by/based on other peoples ideas, while some are original, but may have been posted before but I am not aware of it. Anyway, here are my ideas for some substances you could find there:
Ether: Liquid, can be collected in buckets, but is not affected by gravity, ergo floats in the air. It would be found in floating spherical "pools" and floating "rivers", which you can swim through, and maybe could either be impossible to drown in, or it would take longer to drown in Ether than in water. After being placed from a bucket , it expands to form a spherical "pool" with a set radius, though it can flow around solid objects, and can be directed into "rivers" by being attracted to or repelled by certain kinds of blocks.
Lumastone: Based on the "sun blocks" idea; is more easily harvested than Glowstone, since it breaks into complete blocks instead of dust that must be crafted into a block. The light it emits doesn't burn mobs, but direct contact with it can.
Ivory: durable white stone, name not definite. Slightly less durable than Obsidian, but may have some useful properties, like possibly attracting Ether.
Also, I agree that the Aether should be accessed by a portal made from Diamond blocks (but might not be made in the same way as a Nether portal), which would make it hard to access due to the rarity of Diamonds, but the unique materials, passive mobs, and awesome view would make it worth it. Again, I apologize if any of my ideas have already been posted.
The original is easier to find. Took me about 10 seconds. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81138#Aetherock Please do not post new threads unless you really need to.
