We have sand and gravel.
We need floating castles and structures.
Or minecraft will be a very, very crappy game.
Do you want minecraft to loose all of it's players?
I think not.
Just use sand and gravel.
Thats the fun of the game. Who says minecraft has to be set on earth- who says there has to be physics??? the physics of minecraft is the fun of half of it. I suppose maybe ther could be a physics switch in the options if a lot of people really wanted there to be but most people will disagree with you.
yesss! this.
You summed it up perfectly. I'd turn off the Physics section, and, isn't sand enough?
Besides, floating islands don't "float" if they have a connection to the ground.

I think most blocks should fall if there is no connection with the ground.
These will work:

Blue is the ground. Black is the block(s) in question.
By this model, cardinal and diagonal connections will work.
The possible exception could be obsidian or one of the blocks suggested for the Aether.
How would people make immense floating things in the first place? Jeez, it's annoying enough having sand fall :/
Good point. As I said, there could be obsidian or a block from the Aether that could make the island float.
