As of right now, Fences are placed in the center of a block. Sometimes this looks nice, sometimes it looks clunky. But it would look nicer if they were placed along the EDGE of a block, rather than centered.
That's it.
Oh also, here's some images C:
A quick explanation--
The edge of the block would be detected the same way you place a staircase. Depending on the direction you face, it aligns to the opposite edge. Every fence placed after it, would fall in line with that one, so you don't have to worry about always facing the right way. When you turn, the fence post would be placed at the corner of the block, closest to the new direction.
You'd still be able to do the stacking glitch, so don't worry.
But the block would still be completely occupied by the fence, correct?
I kind of prefer it in the center because it makes it clear that block is full. If it was on the edge it might be hard (from a distance) to tell which block it's in.
I'd like it on one side though if fences acted like a vertical half block or something.

Yes, it would still occupy one single block. It would simply be pushed toward the edge, rather than centered.
See, this way, it looks better aligning with Doors (until the gate is added), and they'd make "railing" for your deck or staircase look a little... neater.
Haha. Perhaps the next suggestion I should add is fences that detect other fences Above/below them! So you can make a hand-rail or some such!
